Seedi - Retro Gaming System - (Indiegogo Campaign)

I *have* a Sega CD unit but it's a quarter century old and doesn't work very well anymore. If it works at all, I haven't actually tried it in several years. Plus there's the ridiculously limited internal memory for saves, although I think the internal battery for those died years ago.

I don't really have the money to support something like this and I suspect there may be a way to play Sega CD games right off the disk even just on this aging laptop if I find the right emulator, but the idea of having a brand new device that can play quarter century old optical media games more or less right out of the box (once you find the right BIOS files) is quite appealing.

I hope night trap is everything you remember, and more.

You're welcome.

Very "Seedy" indeed, you dont need $50k for a disc drive and a few free emulators. The system looks like your usual cheap retro crap.

Normally I'm okay with emulation, but I never did like the idea of selling it (let alone making people pay for the right to buy it).

Metal Jesus Cow was sent a preview build of it.

I smell lots of shills

MJR would get on his knees to blow someone just for something free. I don't understand how someone who knows so little about video games is such a collector and has the YouTube subscribers he does.

Like many other youtube channels, they help secure the insecure whenever they buy certain games. Collectors in particular can feel a bit off when they dump $200 into a dusty old cartridge, so they watched MJR to feel safer, to feel better about their absurd investment.

At least thats my theory

"Investing" in retro games after the prices have inflated 500x. You're better off going and gambling that money away. It's sad but there are people who have such a poor grasp on economics that they actually believe video games are an "investment" :story:

The only Retro game system worth buying atm is the Sega Genesis, prices havent taken off to dumb levels, pretty much anything Nintendos wildly overpriced.

Then theres the market itself which is quickly becoming modern Hollywood, that is to say that everything needs to be an imitation, a recreation, or a fabrication. Only with videogames you got a bunch of youtubers telling you whats good and what aint (Be sure to hit that LIKE button!).

It is also capable of playing ROMs for the NES, Sega Genesis/Mega Drive, MAME (Arcade emulator), Game Boy (Original, Color and GBA), Atari 2600 and Turbografx 16/PC Engine. It will also have the capability of playing physical Sega Genesis/Mega Drive and Game Boy (with another adapter) cartridges via a Retrode adapter which is sold by itself. It will also feature controller ports for the Genesis and SNES.

Is it really though or did they just take a picture of some shitty box with a game next to it?

On a sidenote, I kind of wish Sega could license out (to AtGames?) the rights to produce an all-in-one Sega optical media console that can play Sega CD, 32X CD, Saturn, and Dreamcast games. I don't need to replace my (second) Dreamcast at the moment but the 20th birthday of the console is approaching next year in Japan and those lasers don't last forever. And, even if there are PC emulators that run Dreamcast games flawlessly, I have light gun games that, quite obviously, I wouldn't be able to play properly on this laptop (playing with a mouse isn't the same) but I do have a couple of CRT-TVs that I'm glad we never got rid of.

I only have Night Trap because one of my brothers bought it back in the day. I honestly never cared for it as a game. The only Sega CD games I want to play aren't FMV.

I'll try that emulator later, thanks.

Said nobody ever. Have you seriously ever seen how cheap their stuff is? It's kind of embarrassing in the sound and video department. No stereo output, no HDMI (composite video), and cheap RF controllers. They also toss in those cheap Chinese shit games as a pack in.

Yeah, I know AtGames is about the worst choice to produce a Sega optical media box, but I'm not sure Sega cares enough about quality to license out the retro hardware rights to anyone else.

From what I know, Dreamcast is one of those platforms that are emulated okay, but not good enough to blindly assume compatibility with all games.

As for CRT and emulation, I'm yet to see an emulator (emulator, not a clone!) that supports CRT output the same way the original consoles did. So when your Dreamcast kicks the bucket and you can't find another working one, consider modding the gun to work like a mouse for your emulator. Here's an example of such a mod: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TgnnMQLC3Vs

It quite literally looks like something sold at a thrift store without the proper equipment and they just slapped a sticker on it.
