Sekiro: Return to Dark Souls rage quit or unexpected surprise?

I'm a noob to the FromSoulsBorneSoftware series-style games, think Dark Souls and this Ogre pumped my ass for around 40 minutes. Combat is fantastic, stealth is pretty necessary. Makes me think Dark will get destroyed and might ragequit
Being a noob isn't a bad thing though for Sekiro, you don't have to undo several hundred hours of Soulsborne and Nioh training which tells you to dodge instead of parry. Dark is definitely going to get smacked around. From what I remember, they have eavesdropping hints as part of the game, like they do with the Ogre, and one of DSP's biggest criticisms is that he never, ever pays attention or reads. Even chat can't spend their time directing him to hidden areas.

The #1 anti-entertainment aspect of Sekiro that I suspect will destroy Phil's streams is that you can always tell how close you are to the next skill point, so I'm guessing he'll spend about a full quarter of his playtime grinding out that bar.
I’m still waiting for a decent tihydp DMC5, but the fact that he didn’t rev Nero’s sword at all tells me that this is going to be a nasty one. Does anyome how lenient the parries are in Sekiro compared to Ex-act or Royal Guard? If it’s even close he’s gonna get assraped even more than usual.
It's a little more lenient than you'd expect to get perfect parries, and if you miss you'll still block hits until your stability runs out, but I don't think he's gonna enjoy having to learn instead of being told to find op weapons and mash. Mashing does NOT get you very far.

I'm not far in and have to restart because I encountered a bug which completely eliminates one important type of attack-counter all of a sudden.
I missunderstood the instructions and probably just did it right the first times because I was unintentionally nervously mashing the right button. That's fine tho, now I have a way smoother start.

However now I can guarantee first hand that Dave will fail on an epic level. It's literally the quotes copied by @Comma (whuuuaaat, those shill reviewers are right?!). First the good news, there is no stamina so you can theoretically spam evade and attack as much as you want. The bad news, the game seems to be designed around fast pacing, precise inputs and reflexes. So you have way more freedom, but you shouldn't necessarily go apeshit, you have to control yourself. It's important to watch the enemie's movement (glasses?). Taking damage should be avoided at all cost, you can't really tank hits, healing seems quite limited. Blocking is possible, but only until the enemy breaks your stance. There are multiple ways to traverse through a level, some ways are easier if you explore with interest, the regular ways are mostly filled with enemies (at least at the start).

In other words, this game is designed to hit all of Phil's weaknesses. Chat can help him as much as he wants, no problem, but if he's incapable of understanding and learning the mechanics and just plays how he always plays it's all worthless and we could be in for a big fat laugh or infinite boredom, it depends on how he actually plays (in either case: bad). Who would have guessed that an AAA title could potentially really help his views, even tho it's for the wrong reasons?

Other predictions (possibly explained with money of the scammed, so I won't explain the solutions, just roll with it):
  • "Uuuuh, how do I pick up money?"
  • "This is a charge attack, huh? How do I unleash it?"
  • First minute: "I can't roll? Why can't I roll? Where is my evasion? Uuuuh, no buttons work. I can't even attack. ACK ACK ACK.
  • "I can't grab the ledge. Uuuuuh. I can't grab the ledge. What's happening? Uuuuuh. Uuuuuh."
  • Jumps down a cliff instead of using the grapple, confuses buttons.
  • Tries to kill enemies without a weapon just because he can use stealth (if he even uses stealth).
  • Moves the areas like it's Dark Souls and ignores mostly grapple points. Asks chat if he should use them.
  • Spams attack and gets punished without ever understanding why.

I mean so far the combat is pretty forgiving given how generous the are with the deflection timing. . .so far. I'm going to imagine, like Dark Souls, it will open up with enemies having different timing patterns, so we probably won't see too much rage from him at the outset.

. . .I full expect "Fuck you FS! FS dials it in!" at some point though.

EDIT: Holy shit. The true death tax is steep as fuck. The Dave will absolutely be raging. And calling it now, he will absolutely skip over most of the "training dummy" bits and say the game never told him anything.

I watched Elajjaz play for a couple hours today, and I stand by my original assessment... Dave will make minimal progress in the first 2 or 3 hours and quit.

He will refuse to play with the prosthetic arm attachments, consumables, bitch and moan that his moves weren't coming out, complain about camera angles, and at the end of it, delete the game.

Also, prepare for Dave's patented magic eye for frame rate, because the rumor is that PS4 is dropping to 20FPS.

Distortion2 is still getting TIHYDP levels of rekt right now.

There's 0% a guy like DSP finishes this game.

Now we are just placing bets on which boss or subboss causes him to quit Ludwig style.

I would say this Lady Butterfly boss looks vicious, but I don't even know if DSP will get to her.

Edit: There's no way DSP beats Lady Butterfly. IF he somehow beats her first phase, he will absolutely rage about checkpoints when he loses to the second phase.

Double Edit: Distortion2 has to be at 20+ deaths on just Lady Butterfly, and he's only reached the second phase twice.

I only keep bringing this up because Distortion2 is good. DSP is not. Also, Distortion2 seems to still be pretty early in the game, which is one of the reasons I'm following him on this playthrough.

Grandma (Lady Butterfly) is going to fuck DSP up. Then offer him some Werther's Originals.

Triple Edit: Jesus Christ, Lady Butterfly has some sort of Meteor attack in Phase 2. That'll bring the salt.

Quadruple Edit: Distortion finally won. Had to be 30+ deaths. He then said "it was a fun fight" unlike what DSP will say when he dies to a boss 30+ times.

Yeah, can't wait for him to get stuck every "Elite"-enemy.
We all know his reflexes are shit, so he will die... a lot.

He will probably grind Skill-points in an attempt to get stronger, but the Skills mainly give utility and not so much raw strength or HP.
(At least I haven't seen such particular skills yet)

I also watched Lobos stream the game a little and even he struggled at some points/enemies. (And he is basically a SoulsBorne-God)

I almost beat the Ogre first try. . .he has two grabs though and the tells are really kind of the same. Plus the usual FS hitbox.

I'm placing my bet is at Ashina Outskirts he'll rage at the first Officer General the when he gets to the fat guy with the hammer he'll try to just whale and get his shit pushed in.

Yes, this is another anti-DSP design I'm looking forward to. Defeating regular enemies give exp and often money. But if you die you lose half of the exp for your next level up and all your money. There is a percentual chance this won't happen on death, but if you get rekt enough the chance shrinks. So let's say you are good enough to not die on normal enemies (manageable) and you get a level, all you do is activating a skill for battle (which are helpful). You don't increase any stat like HP or Attack. So far I also encountered no new weapon or armor.

There is a way to increase some minor stats (HP) but to do that you have to kill several minibosses. This means you have to earn your victory, git gud, you can't just level up until you one hit them. At least so far I've experienced Sekiro. I'm sure Phil will find a way to cheese his way instead of learning it. Like grinding all night on small enemies for techniques.

Played maybe 2 hours at most with lots of breaks. Seems stealth is a big part from what I've experienced. Though I haven't fought more than one enemy yet, I experienced getting fucking wrecked by the first major enemy in the tutorial trying to adapt to the timing.

Then the game introduces other ways to avoid attacks by Ki(?) symbols above your head. So you cannot shield(block) or dodgeroll everything. Brought in another option of jumping over sweep shit. Takes getting used to.

Though the ai isn't too smart and can often get exploited when caught by running away at some points early. Good mix of Tenchu, Bushido Blade, and Soulsgames. Looking forward to seeing how he does since I've heard a lot of people had a bit of trouble on the first "major" enemy they encounter.

You get Damage upgrades from Bosses and HP/Posture upgrades from Mini-Bosses.
I think it is safe to say, that this will be a pretty salty playthrough.
Although... never underestimate the luck of the PigRoach.
Dave tends to get really lucky on the most difficult parts of playthroughs, so wouldn't surprise me if he somehow glitches his way to Pigtory.

So is Dragonrot curable? I'm so bad that the Sculptor is already coughing. :(

Yes it is, you have to talk to Emma about that.

The game seems tough as hell compared to DkS 3 and maybe BloodBorne imo. It's a lot of fun for fans of the series, I wonder if he'll be able to just keep throwing himself at a problem and force his way through like in previous games or if it'll slowly beat him down like Ludwig did. It seems like the opportunity for entire streams of him just dying is a legit possibility. The game seems far more unforgiving than the last few FromSoft games, I'm genuinely interested to see how far he'll get.

That'll be especially hilarious because the game literally pauses to show you new techniques and requires you to push start/options to continue.

Started his stream with the OBLIGATORY RANT of paid shills who played the game earlier than him

No death counter because the game has a resurrect mechanism, chat wants resurrect counter and Phil flat out said no I'm not doing it

Over 700 viewers for the start of the game. He'll usually say something like "Apparently there's lots of viewers. From what people are saying. I wouldn't know. I don't check."

After literally a hundred of hours of Soulsborne and a good couple weeks of DMC 5, I can say... Fuck this game. Doesn't matter what I do, I always default to dodging instead of standing there and parrying attacks. I haven't had my shit pushed in this hard in a long, long time. One slip up, and you are dead.

Add to that the reduction in xp and gold, the building up of dragonrot when you die, and no ability to upgrade health and posture without beating the bosses, and you have a rage inducing game.

Phil is going to quit this, I am certain of it.
