Or you could just limit off topic to people who support the site. The thought being the ones who care about the site enough to buy merch/send funds occasionally are less likely to fed post and I’d reckon more pliable to corrective action if they do.
Anyone that’s ok with the website going down for political points, for example when Trump was considering repealing Section 230, aren’t contributing much anyways. So it’s not a net loss if they’re cut.

Why spend your time and money on someone that is indifferent to your website existing? Why waste energy on people that cheerleaded the site’s demise if it meant inconveniencing Twitter?
You can even phrase it politically so they can understand it: It’d be like if a bunch of refugees came in and expected handouts while refusing to try to blend into the local board culture.
