Lol, oh God, I remember this chick. She's pretty infamous in anti-SJW circles for being "that one radfem who thinks that wind turbines cause menstrual cramps."

Holy fucking shit, periods hurt because the uterus is contracting to slough off the useless lining it builds up over a month because the egg that was released wasn't fertilized. It's basic biology. Your body is basically preparing you for when you have to bear a child, and the cramps are peanuts compared to birthing pains.

Periods are actually pretty metal. More specifically, menstrual cramps occur because when the uterus contracts too strongly, it can press against nearby blood vessels, cutting off the supply of oxygen to the muscle tissue of the uterus. Pain results when part of a muscle briefly loses its supply of oxygen. So basically you hurt because your muscles are being asphyxiated, not because of pollution.

And I love how she said "bodily functions aren't supposed to hurt." Childbirth is the most natural thing there is yet the vast majority of women prefer to be doped the fuck up during the process because it's so excruciating.

Also, we don't live in the Middle Ages, and since Sexselector has a Tumblr, I'm assuming she lives in a first world nation. Just pop some fucking Tylenol or Aleve and relax with a heating pad. And if your pain is really bad, go to your doctor and have him give you some prescription painkillers. Painkillers are pretty sweet.

Some Radfem said:
Pain is not a good evolutionary strategy
Actually it is and it's one of the reasons we're still here. Pain is your body's way of telling you that something is not right. It could be that you stepped on something sharp. Or something you ate wasn't very good. Or because you're pushing your body beyond what it's used to. Pain is there to tell us we need to pay attention to what is happening. Now I agree there are pains that are unwarranted and serve no purpose like migraines but to say that it's not good in an evolutionary sense just shows that you have no idea what you're talking about.

People like this are the reason that every time feminism makes any kind of positive stride, it gets set back something fierce.

Rad-fem, SJW, anti-vaxxer, anti-science...it makes me a little sad for humanity that people like this exist. I miss the days when we could just chuck them in a madhouse and call it a day.

There's a really interesting article written about a little girl who has congenital insensitivity to pain with anhidrosis, or CIPA, which is a rare genetic disorder that makes her unable to feel pain. The article goes into how she frequently injures herself and doesn't even realize anything's wrong. From the Wikipedia page on CIPA:

People with this disorder are very likely to injure themselves in ways that would normally be prevented by feeling pain. For example, a patient could burn themselves severely and not even notice. The main features of the disorder are lack of pain sensation, painless injuries of the arms, legs and oral structures, hyperthermia during hot weather because of inability to sweat, syndromic intellectual disability as a result of hyperthermia, infection and scarring of the tongue, lips and gums, chronic infections of bones and joints, bone fractures, multiple scars, osteomyelitis and joint deformities, which may lead to amputation. Other common problems are eye related, such as infection due to the sufferers rubbing them too hard, too frequently or scratching them during sleep.

If we were incapable of feeling pain, we as a species would have died out before we even knew we could use rocks as weapons.

xfd at thinking the pill worsens period cramping. Maybe in rare instances, in which you should change to something else, but if done right? Hell no.

Sound medical advice my ass. Where the fuck are your credentials? Crazy ass tumblrina...

I feel really bad when a woman says stuff that proves she knows absolutely nothing about her own body. Patriarchy isn't the reason why menstruation can hurt, granted, I feel like man periods would have 100% better commercials for their products (cars, explosions, actual red dye instead of blue dye); but it's not the patriarchy's fault for the pain. That's evolution. Many scientists have determined that childbearing and menstruation pain comes from the fact that we are bipedal. Something about standing up straight all our lives did something to our internal organs. Just how it is.

If her response is the "if you can get a boner you're an adult" one... I think she needs to go read a book. There are legit records of babies popping boners in the womb. Babies can get boners pretty much any time before and after birth. Even as a woman I can understand that not every boner is a sexual one; sometimes they just happen randomly. Boners =/= adulthood anymore than erect nipples on a girl = womanhood.

IMO a good possible treatment for cramps/PMS is exercise and just being in really good shape in general...advice that tumblr is not fucking likely to take now that I think about it

edit: ymmv, this is obviously not a cure all for really bad cramps, but I've noticed that mine get way worse if I'm sedentary and out of shape

In addition to other people's comments I'd like to add that there's even a medicine specially made for menstrual symptoms. It's called Midol, and it was invented by a man. Two men, in fact.
Birth control pills? A man's invention.
Tampons? A man's invention.
Tumblr? Oh yes, Tumblr was also made by a man. ;)

This could literally be applied to a doctor telling the mother that she's going to have a kid with Downs. Or Autism. Or a physical deformity.
What's that? My child will be born with severe autism? Guess I'd better abort!
But those other conditions should be taken care of with an abortion.

"Being in pain is not a good evolutionary strategy"?! Actually. Yes. Yes it is. First responders and doctor people are delighted to hear crying and complaints of pain. It means that you are still alive, that your systems are fighting and not failing and you are trying to STAY alive. It is a signal that something is wrong and just exactly WHERE it is wrong. It's when you say you feel nothing and are utterly unresponsive that there is deep deep trouble. Be glad for pain. It can save your fucking life. Meanwhile, young lady, go do what I did for 23 years -- 800 mg Motrin -- I don't really recommend the get cancer "down there", but that's the route I went, cleared that nasty thing right up. (Sorry for the power level, but sometimes maybe you just need to put on "Titanic" and have a good cry and oh-da-Feels and stop blogging about some conspiracy regarding your "lady time". Pro Tip: There isn't one.).

This has been a presentation of: Advice From Kiwi Mom -- Here For When Your Real Mom Says "No."

See? Patriarchy's medicalization, regulation, and commercialization of women's natural, sacred body functions.

I've actually heard that orgasms can help to reduce cramping during a woman's period. Dunno how true it is but it sounds like it makes sense.
