Yeah, I was taught that. That's why I kind of think it was my fault it happened. Therapists tell me, "it wasn't your fault" but really who else's fault was it that I got into a van with a stranger at like 2am? I was basically asking for something bad to happen.

I mean, you ain't wrong and at least you learned your lesson, right? This bullshit of "you should be able to trust anyone and you can't hold yourself responsible for putting yourself in a bad situation" is horseshit. Downright dangerous. Best you can do is learn, forgive/educate yourself and be sure it doesn't happen again. That said your rapist is a shitbag and deserves some serious punishment.
