💼 Careercow SHiFT / @shiftposting - Angriest speedrunner on earth. 20,000 hours spent playing one SpongeBob game. Frequently rages until his voice gets blown out.

going to work on the final part to his documentary series that encapsulates the lore of BFBB from its creation to his retirement and milestones of speedrun strats.
if he can do a good deep dive on the history of its development that'd be cool, in the same way that people have documented other games like simpsons H&R

I only have a passing knowledge of this guy but any time I've ventured onto the shithole Twitch for "research purposes" this guy was always there & always streaming the same game to 150 people. I'm surprised he's quitting, it would be kinda inspiring if it didn't involve speedrunning a children's game for a little recognition on some wiki page.

EDIT: checked his Twitch outta curiosity, he's currently streaming a different Spongebob game from 25 years ago

God, I remember playing this game as a kid. It was ass.
SHiFT knows its ass too. Back when I watched him.he'd play this game for memes. Audioshare was on and people would pay so the bot would play Minecraft song parodies sung by 10 year olds or earrape. Sometimes both.

This is absolutely feature-worthy because how the fuck is this possible? How is it possible to get addicted to a Spongebob game? I can understand alcohol, cigarettes, porn, but this... There are many better games dude.

This guy sounds eloquent too. Clearly structured sentences, no filler words, that's way better than your average lolcow. He is clearly an intelligent man. Every speedrunner is a repressed smart guy who is fed into the machine and forced to destroy themselves for attention. They avoid making effort to be a good man and a good husband. They hit their head on the wall for 10 years and think that makes them leagues above others, but when the illusion falls apart and they're one-on-one with the mirror, they will commit suicide.

There will be no curiosity, no enjoyment of the process of life. All competing pleasures will be destroyed. But always, there will be the intoxication of power, constantly increasing and constantly growing subtler. Always, at every moment, there will be the thrill of victory, the sensation of trampling on an enemy who is helpless.

If you want a picture of the future, imagine a grown man crying about spongebob— forever

Speedrunning is just sad, man. Videogames are entertainment, turning beating them fast in to a life's work is sad. Imagine all the other things he could have accomplished instead, and what he could have to show for it. Learning an instrument, a language, taking up some form of art or exciting outdoor activity, hiking, travelling, cooking, anything. If he had devoted all his Spongebob time to only 1 of these things, imagine how much better life would be. He could even continue playing Spongebob in his spare time for entertainment if he still wanted to.

It has to be a status thing really, being able to state you're the greatest in the world at something, but when all it amounts to is raging in front of a camera for the majority of your time to the occasional validation of autists and trannies on Twitch and Reddit, where the fuck is your life headed bro you're gonna troon out or kill yourself eventually it's inevitable.

It's good that he quit.
