Shit that reminds you that you’re getting old - Re: Fwd: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Fwd: Damn young’uns

Damn, hearing everyone's experience in life back in the 90's and 80's makes me rather feel young. It reminds me of a time when my grandmother would tell me her experience in life back then, it was interesting and sweet, often sad, just like this thread.

Anyway, back when I was a kid, my parents would often complain how kids use computers too much these days, don't go outside a lot anymore, often irritating to take care of. I didn't really care and agree about the things they said when I was a kid, but as I grew older and older, as I see the newer generation, these complaints they've told, they've slowly grown onto me. I see kids with phones and complain how parents can just give them these devices without supervising them, doing dumber things than when I was a kid because of social medias like TikTok, be more annoying than ever. I also get a bit pissed off whenever I see one of my relatives use their phone while eating. It's just wild because the shit my parents were complaining about, I'm slowly understanding them.

I also hate the new generation, can't even understand the new terms they spew out like cis, oomfie, latinx, filipinx, etc, have to google these terms to even understand them. Shit, even I hate how I sound like a boomer complaining about the new generation, "Damn kids with their TikTok and BTS, my generation was better!", and I'm not even that old.

Old Skype. I know this sounds funny but, back when me and my husband started dating in 2013, we were kinda far away so we couldn't just go to the other's house all the time, So we would use skype to call after the day most nights. Pretty nostalgic just hearing the old Skype ringtone or just any of the sounds, apparently alot of people found the sounds horrifying, I personally found them comforting. New skype doesn't have the charm and SUCKS ASS.

The youngest person to have played a sixth-gen console when it and its games were new is now 20 - 21 years old at the absolute youngest.
Most children - young teens have probably never played a portable console, outside of maybe the New New Super Hyper Turbo Nintendo 4K 3DS.

Half-Life 2 turning 18 years old in November.
Ratchet and clank turns 20 this November. With Jak and Daxter having turned 20 last December that makes both popular 3d platformer series by both naughty dog and Insomniac games crossing the big 2 0 threshold after crash and Spyro did in 2016 and 2017 respectively.

All that's left is uncharted and last of us. And we all know how well those series ended up.

Picking my kids up is getting harder and harder. Either my back is getting worse or they're getting bigger. I don't know which is more alarming
I feel this so much 😢 was carrying my youngest two into daycare and realized physically this won’t be doable for much longer. Albeit my back does kind of suck but they are getting bigger too.

The other day my oldest kid and I were talking about video games, he’s really into Silent Hill lately and asked if I had ever played any. I told him I played the original back when it first came out and added that I was about his age at the time. “wow! Silent hill is that old?!” I also realized I’ve been playing the Sims for 20 years now.

I remember when NBA Live was THE basketball game series to play over 2K.

I remember when NBA Jam was the big one. I played it quite a bit in the arcades.
Nothing comes close to NBA Jam's roster of hidden characters.

since we’re on the topic of video games, try telling/showing a kid how much fun Venture was on the ColecoVision and have them look at you like you’re nuts. For maximum old factor, show them the controller for the console and have them attempt to figure it out

Every time I hear or see commonly used social media (think Instagram, Tik Tok, etc) I just roll my eyes.

I’m able to know how soulless corporate marketing and such truly is.

Each time that a new phone rolls around I’m clueless to what it actually is because I don’t care enough to remember.

The list goes on lmao.

I use a flip phone. I mourned the death of 3G because I couldn't use my no frills flip anymore. I still use it as a stop watch and calculator since it's small and has a good UI for that.

Social media is corporate trash. Kids missed out on being able to create their own websites from code they learned how to make themselves.
