Shit that reminds you that you’re getting old - Re: Fwd: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Fwd: Damn young’uns

Do they always get damaged in shipping?
I've ordered three in the last two-ish years and all three were absolutely mangled, either broken screen or cracked boards to the point they won't turn on
Never underestimate the power of BRAND.
It just makes me sad to see people gaslit into buying clearly inferior shit.
Yeah it definitely was hand drawn at that time. That’s why you get all those weird in-between transition frames where if you pause on a piece of action the character is all warped and distorted. I don’t know the proper name for it but those exaggerated movements create good transitions and flow that you don’t get in 3D or even 3D rendered 2D.
Ah, the weird shit they had to do before motion tweening was invented.

I still associate $100K with the cost of a new house.

In Current Year, $100K may buy a condo or maybe just a "tiny house" -- if you're lucky.
When we moved back to California after my dad left the service, my parents bought a small three bedroom house for $35K, and their house payment was $115. This was 1974.

Some faggot kid with a speech impediment on YouTube sperging about the Star Wars Battlefront remaster described the original as one of 'the most greatest games of my childhood'.

First of all, you fucking zoomer, 'greatest' is a superlative, so you can't have a 'most greatest' anything. Something is simply 'the greatest'. There are not gradations of 'greatest'. Learn to speak your first fucking language.

Second of all, fuck off. The Battlefront games only came out a couple of years ago. They weren't part of anyone's childhood, shut up. I'm not that old, fuck you.

These are animation smears, and it is not exclusive to cel or even 2D animation. It is to convey faster motion and simulate motion blur when you have a lower frame limit and is one of the basics of animation. You'll see it in CG/3D animation including video games sometimes.

To be on topic, when I had to explain what animation cels even were to some zoomers.

There have been a lot of parodies of bowling for soup's 1985 only called 2005. Since 2004 the year they released 1985 is now as far away from us now as 1985 was from 2004. Most of the parodies are crap (the best has to be by indie e punk artist billy cobb) but crap or not they really feel like grandpa simpsons "I used to be with it."moment.

Last night, something reminded me of that scene from the movie The Sandlot where the boy with glasses pretends to drown in the community pool so the hot teenage girl lifeguard would save him. So I found the clip on youtube and had a good laugh and thought to myself "damn, you could NEVER film something like that today". There'd be hit pieces calling the scene normalizing rape culture or whatever bullshit.

Started reading the comments section and saw a couple others making the same observation. But what really inspired this post was when a comment said "wow guys, do you realize this film is THIRTY YEARS OLD THIS YEAR?" I closed the tab and went to bed.

Food inflation is just nuts.
And of course there's "shrinkflation", where the quantity and/or quality is diminished, but the price isn't.

Like I don't see those older soda cans much anymore, if ever. It's usually those mini ones now

I keep thinking the 90s and 00s were only a few years ago.
It's as if this is a bad timeline, and it's not supposed to be this far in the future yet.

61 in a few weeks.
Ancient.
I wouldn't look at it like "ancient." Think "classic," "vintage," "refined." Women tend to age better than men IMO.

Thread tax: I remember when PS2 controllers had an analog toggle button on the controller. I didn't know that controllers before the PS2 did not HAVE analog sticks. PS1.

I always assumed the 78 in your name was your birth year.

We all know how you feel about the female aging process, TLS.

AAAAAACTUALLY the PSX did have an analog controller that came out later in its life. It was required for exactly one game: Ape Escape. Some other games could use the sticks but didn't require them.

On another forum someone younger than me was asking for carreer (more like job) advice, my current job came up and someone answerd that it was "out of the question, you need to be young and fit to handle that". I felt old and young at the same time.

I remember Klonoa 2 being the only PS2 game I knew that had the analog mode switched off by default.

The last action game I was able to finish was Darkness 2, because after that, the graphics and motion capture became so fast and shakey that severe motion sickness hits me if I stare at a screen for more than five or ten minutes at a time. Even finishing Darkness 2 was hard. Alice: Madness Returns came out the year before Darkness 2, and I wasn't able to get past the second fucking level, because you had to jump across all these fucking mushrooms and I was never able to cross them before my head started splitting and I had to go and pray to the porcelain God.

Darkness 2 came out in 2012. I've only been able to play time management or point and click games since.

Also, the wanker who invented shakycam in movies should be hunted down and disembowelled with extreme prejudice.

Finding a stash of porn magazines in the shallow woods. They'll never see that anymore.

The first time I saw a photo of a lady's vagina (who is now, much younger than me) I heard my friend say 'my willy is tensing well hard'
