Things you liked as a kid, if you revisit them now are they shit?

I enjoyed troll dolls from age 3 to 8, there's no real way to determine if a toy holds up I guess, but I do find them more disturbing than I did as a child with their strange wrinkled faces.

If you keep out of fandoms stuff you like as a kid can age well.

Once you think "oh lets talk to other reasonable adults about things I liked at 6..." you goofed. Thank goodness the net taught me that and some childhood things are still great when I feel the need to feel like a kid again.

It also helps when remakes etc you just ignore. I loved ghostbusters as a kid and the real ghostbusters cartoon. Frankly I enjoy the cartoon more as an adult, when you see the first 2 seasons amazing amout of work and talent. So many of the monsters of the week they went absurdly out of their way to fit a "proper" lore of Irish folk lore, lovecraft, vodoo etc. Needless to say an incredible voice talent. Once it became season 3 drop it.

Needless to say about the last movie we don't talk about it nor do I let it run the greatness of the first film.

Some stuff we just out grow, other stuff we enjoy in different ways. The first time I saw giant robots I was hooked and I'm in my 30s and still play battletech.

I'll spare being long winded but lots of stuff didn't hold up or I don't enjoy, or only enjoy that era of things. But yea it's case by case.

Somethings hold up, some not so much (I never realized how fast the Never ending story's plot moved as a kid). But it's not the end of the world if it doesn't. It was enjoyable to you on some level at one time.

Edit: Something about the Never ending story that bugged me. The kid, Bastian wants to give the empress his mothers name. I read some where that he yells Moon Child at the end, and now I can't unhear it.

Gundam is still popular, and with Thunderbolt Gundam the UC timeline still shows it can keep up in terms of quality. Original Zeta is still one of the best and 10/10 re-watched it 6 times this year.

Sega Genesis/ SNES games still hold up

Code Veronica still holds up with spookie vidya.

Batman TAS never gets old.
Same with The Iron Giant.

The movie "Monster Squad".

Love it as a kid, but a few years ago me and my buddy were at Target with his gf and were really excited when we saw it in the 5 dollar movie bin and bought the shit out of it.

On the drive back to his gf's parents house we kept talking about how awesome it was, and got her all excited. We get to her living room, pop in the DVD, and...disappointment. I'll never forget the look on her face.

Me and my buddy must have apologized a hundred times.

Fishing, ik it's not a media or some shit like that, but I do enjoy it more now than when I was a kid.

I still suck and can hardly catch shit lol

The Pirates of Dark Water holds up better as an adult than as a kid, because as an adult you can appreciate what it did.

Most high fantasy settings are just recycled Tolkien and medieval folklore or greco roman/norse mythology. But The Pirates of Dark Water went and made their own completely original setting from scratch. No dwarves and elves, they made their own human subraces and ethnicities. No european countryside with castles and magical forests filled with trolls. This place was an ocean planet dotted with islands getting slowly eaten by an eldritch horror living in the planet's core. Everyone the main character meets is a sketchy character with something to hide or is a straight up criminal, including his own crew (The ship they use throughout the show was stolen), a rare concept compared to other children shows at the time where characters were usually obviously good or bad. The character designs, animation, and backgrounds were complex and detailed, making the show so expensive that they couldn't afford to keep making it. The five part miniseries the show opened with had higher quality animation than anything else on TV at the time.

I've always been disappointed they never revived it or did anything with the property. The show had some killer worldbuilding and an interesting concept with an environmental/ecological bent but without hitting you over the head with it.

Also, while I'm at it...Hey Arnold has aged really well. I especially liked its focus on urban legends and the weird shit that concerns you when you're young.

Sega Genesis. Holds up.
The Babysitters Club. Doesn't really hold up but sometimes it's fun to read again if I'm bored.
Jurassic Park. Holds up.
Ninja Turtles. Holds up.
Full House. Doesn't.
Boy Meets World. Still holds up and is still a good show for kids to this day.
Saved By The Bell. The only reason it still holds up is because it's so goofy that it's entertaining.
RIP TGIF.

Rugrats didn't hold up well, given how some of the things they had on the show back then would be considered creepy today. Not to mention how the producers seemed to have gotten desperate with spin-offs like All Grown Up. And yet, a revival of the series is incoming...

Doug held up a bit better, but Disney taking over the series is still a low point that should have never happened.

Legends of the Hidden Temple, as a kid's game show, seemed to have held up well, given how it hasn't gotten a revival, (and the trend is that game show revivals tend to run the show into the ground) although you do really notice how stupid some of the contestants were.

Frasier holds up, funniest sitcom I've watched with jokes that don't insult your intelligence and no boopity bop music tracks to spoil the mood
Desperados - Wanted Dead or Alive holds up, most fun out of a western-themed game I had as a kid and one of the few games I finished again twice as an adult
Commodore 64 holds up, I've never liked Amiga aesthetically and I still prefer C64 to it and periodically play its library
Doom holds up, it just never fucking died, the community just keeps on going after two decades
Naruto really doesn't hold up dear god it's utter garbage
Azumanga Daioh holds up, one of the only "ermigerd it's animu" series that I can watch and enjoy since most of them are such mind-numbing trash
Pokémon games hold up, still fun even with all the clunkiness
Terry Pratchett holds up, bless him
CDs don't hold up, I am so happy I never have to use an RW disc again
