Shit You Think is Spooky/Disturbing - Beware! You're in for a scare...

Being looked at by large mantises.

They have eyespots & articulate their heads to focus on prey/threats.

I mean... they're just bugs, but they're smart bugs; in a really alien way.

Octopii weird me out on the same level, along with goats.
They eat things alive. Were not talking about just bugs here ether. I had a really vivid dream about being chases by huge black mantises one time that spooked me. I was 4 at the time.

Driving down quiet roads on moonless nights or before dawn is always just a bit tense.

About a year and a half ago I was returning home from my then fiance's apartment late at night. I took my usual route home and was on autopilot beyond the usual deer watch. It was a quiet, still night - well past midnight. A light fog had settled in some places, reducing visibility slightly but not by enough to make me drive differently.

As I was cresting a hill, I saw movement out of the corner of my right eye. This disheveled looking older woman rushed out of the darkness and tried to flag down my car. I felt my skin crawl and NOPE'd my way away from her, breaking the speed limit for the next 5 miles.
I don't normally get spooked by hitchhikers but what the fuck kind of strategy is that?

Also, do people really find graveyards spooky? I get the whole "dead people are everywhere" thing but they're actually quite peaceful places.

All I can think is that you left some poor woman to die after she escaped the lair of some serial killer (:_(

I had a friend who suffered from sleep paralysis as well, they said something that helped a lot was falling asleep on their stomach instead of their back, as they always used to feel a presence putting weight down on their chest.

There's something about Gen 5 video games (Playstation, Nintendo 64) that have a very surreal mysterious vibe that's very specific to that era.

Here's LSD Dream Emulator which is probably the best example of what I'm talking about.

The low graphical fidelity gives off a lot of mystery and unknown, and most areas in games from this era tend to be pretty empty, which gives off a very eerie and dreamlike atmosphere, usually these games have very little NPCs so you're just wandering a dead world.

There's an entire meme based around this phenomenon for Super Mario 64

like what the fuck is this shit?

I'll take my puzzle pieces now.

Last Month.
I was browsing happily in T-shirt/boxers on a super comfy chair with a beer...

...and a BLACK SPIDER RAN ACROSS MY CHEST!
I flipped, tore of T-Shirt, calmed down and sat back down.

10 min later:
THE SAME FUCKING SPIDER DID IT AGAIN. This time I snatched it like The Flash, and threw it so hard it died.
Freaked me out. I dislike spiders.

I don't care about spiders (I try to catch them and bring them outdoors lol) or other creepy-crawlies, I don't scare easily at all really.

HOWEVER, I live in a large, old house. I'm by myself oftentimes overnight, and always during the day. I'll hear something fall upstairs (unmistakably, we have hardwood floors), I'll assume it's the cats, go up, and find the cats are in the downstairs living room and nothing is out of place. This would happen up to three times a week, in spurts of like a month. Hasn't happened recently, which is good because I've been here alone more than usual and it's frankly pretty disturbing to say the least.

Stories with realistic conspiracies, with a decidedly unrealistic perpetrator, goal or powerbase. Deus Ex is a good example; A super powerful organization beyond government control that is pulling the strings to influence and eventually dominate society as a whole, armed with both the media and super soldiers, powerful viruses and AIs. I always feel a sense of dread when reading/playing/watching stories like this; the thought that the enemy is both everywhere and nowhere to be found is frankly pants shittingly terrifying. He could be that banker over there, that kid with the funny looking ball, or even your best friend. The Conspiracy could quite literally be anyone, and you wouldn't be able to tell who's who until you get into the bottom of things. And even then, doing so might just reveal something you might never have wanted to know...

TLDR, I unironically am scared of shit like the Illuminati because dealing with something like that is not just "Shoot the bad guy". There's LAYERS to dealing with a world wide conspiracy than just some bullets and a hard attitude.

Well, unless you're JC Denton or some shit, then you can just gun the fuckers down, hack into their bank accounts and laugh at their pitiful attempts at piercing your 100 MW magnetic reflection shield.
