Hold on... Does he have any internet presence anywhere at all where he hosts his work, like Wattpad or RoyalRoad?
He hasn't hosted his original work online, but he has fanfics online, yes. Linking directly to even one title in this thread is too much of a powerlevel, though, but they're out there.

How's your sperg brother these days?
Still the same weeb with an addiction to waifu wall scrolls (y'know, the prints of stolen fan-art). Haven't checked his computer in a while to see if there was any updates to his original works, just for the sake of my sanity. Doesn't seem to be watching much anime not One Piece, but he's been reading some ecchi manga. Current flavor of the month appears to be "Fuufu Ijou, Koibito Miman", "More Than a Married Couple, but Not Lovers". I haven't been reading it, but it sounds exactly like something he'd read.

For sure he's planning on taking "inspiration" from it.

He really wants to be an ecchi/sex story writer, huh?

Appears to be, yes.
I don't want to make him a lolcow, btw; if so, probably just someone to discuss here only. How'd you think he would react to our advice?

Now, I think I can drop something here that I've heard of. It's called Guardian of Cascadia, and it's a light novel released 5 years ago. It's like a 90s fantasy movie meets isekai manga. It's like if Artix, or Adam Bohn of Adventure Quest, wrote this story. Instead of a Japanese high school, it's an American high school, and Dean here ends up going to a manga land where everyone that's not him is essentially Japanese named, and he gets to learn all sorts of totally-not-Japanese things in this fantasy world. Yikes.

I have a book, btw.

That artwork looks a bit rough, but good on the author for publishing something, even if it's shitty.

He's my personal lolcow, anyway, so eh. But he might take it, I just don't know if he's capable of putting it into practice, to be honest. If nothing else, he just badly needs an editor/ghost writer. He just needs to stop deluding himself into thinking his work can get published in Japan and sell enough to garner an anime adaptation.

lol, yeah. He honestly needs the advice I was given and focus where he is still. If I was able to, I'd lecture him about the old anime boom I always sperg on about to give him perspective. History's history, even if it's about... ugh.... pop culture (fuck that name).

Just for information sake. How old is your brother? Because people who usually think this way are teens who just learned about Light Novels and how some of the authors got its start. I know it because I used to be one, even wrote a shitty story myself back then (which now I used as a motivational tool)

27, old enough to know better. He's been blabbing on about this for a few years.

Oh, now that is quite a bad situation. Yeah, probably tell your brother to instead of going directly for Japan, aim for the western publishing instead. I have a theory that publishers will try to punlish anime-inspired books with how popular anime is. Better yet if he aim for publishers that has ties to Japan if really wants that anime adaptation goal

This is the most half hearted pity review I've ever read.

If I published a book, I'd rather have pages full of insults and mockery than that.

I wonder if he's aware that Cascadia's actually a real place. And god damn, he even axed his Twitter and Facebook.

I have a book, btw.
And god damn, I can't find any PDFs online. There aren't even any previews. I sure hope I can find it pirated somewhere. I'd ask you for a pdf, but then that would take too much time out of your day. From what I can tell, it's just beginning to rot into obscurity. As a person who likes to delve into a lot of lost media, it's just a shame.

Holy shit the reviewer literally clapped reading about "relationship progress", how is that even real? :story:

This topic is, for me at least, kind of awkward, because I have been thinking about writing my own story as a light novel, as I feel that is the best format for what I have in mind (I'm even at a similar age as to the brother mentioned). Granted, it doesn't really have anything to do with the isekai genre, although it is still inspired by some of my favorite anime, and more specifically, my favorite FPS games.

Should I still go through with it?

If you are this insecure about it the process is going to be rough.

Writing is a craft. No matter what format you decide to start out with you have to come to terms with the fact that your output will be trash.

  1. Write your shit.
  2. Try to figure out why it sucks.
  3. Head back to the drawing board.
  4. Rinse and repeat.
Share your Shitty-western-light-novel when you're done. There will be mean comments and snarky remarks to deal with, but if you're in luck you might recieve some constructive criticism.

Even CWC managed to start a creative project. Just go for it, dude.

Yes.

The wrong isn't in sucking or winning, it's in REEEEEEEING when you do suck (or win).

'If you can meet with Triumph and Disaster, and treat those two imposters just the same' or however that shit went.

Look, as long as you have the self awareness that your writing might be suck (and it will be), AND you have the guts and will to tear your own work apart and improve it, go for it

Shitty internet writers as people know it are those who failed at one of them, if not both. Literary classics are not made in a single writing, it needs revision upon revision.

And you can't do it alone. You will always need someone else who knows about literature enough to read your works, and above all else, gave you constructive criticism as honestly as possible, no matter how harsh it could be (and it will be harsh).

In short, just write it first

I gotta say, all you guys have actually given me more confidence to actually try writing my Magical Girl anime / Cosmic Horror/ Military Sci-Fi / Bio-Punk / FPS Love Letter light novel.

And if it (no doubt) turns out to be a mess, at least I'll give all you guys some more stuff to laugh at and mock.
