Anyone know artists of shoegaze that focus more on the meaning rather than the atmosphere? I know of Slowdive and Revolver but does anyone have new stuff to check?

Hmn. I dunno what exactly you mean by "meaning" but I can recommend a couple.

I love this band. It's just really peaceful, pretty music.

Japanese band that isn't 100% shoegaze but uses elements.

The vocalist from Jack Off Jill made a shoegazeish band a while back.

If lyrical meaning is what you're looking for, shoegaze isn't really the best place to find it. Shoegaze is all about atmosphere and texture. Part of what makes shoegaze shoegaze are its vague, impressionistic, abstract, and fairly minimal lyrics. I don't mean this as a dis of the subgenre; I see it as one of its strengths.

I haven't really listened to much shoegaze of the past decade, but some old fogey faves of mine are:

Spacemen 3, Spiritualized, early Brian Jonestown Massacre, early Catherine Wheel, early Verve, early Ride, early Lilys, early Dandy Warhols, mid-period Jesus and Mary Chain, the Asteroid No. 4, Sonic Boom, early Curve, Medicine, Bardo Pond, Lush, early Boo Radleys, My Bloody Valentine, Swervedriver. Some of these may be stretching to notion of 'shoegaze' (into noise rock, dreampop, and neo-psychedelia), but all at least have some shoegaze aesthetic and sonic approach. Lyrics? Frankly, none of them. Brian Jonestown Massacre and the Dandy Warhols probably have the best (and are also the least shoegazey), the others trend toward the more abstract.

I don't know much of jack about genres, but I recall the word "shoegaze" appearing in the same context as when I first heard of Ringo Deathstarr a short ways back, and then I started listening to them a lot, so I guess try them out maybe? ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Thanks bro. I'll make sure to gel to it later. The first link looks good in particular.

Well yea of course, I know shoegaze js mainly the atmosphere. Maybe I am looking for something whole new but I was just hoping to find Shoegaze or music with Shoegaze atmosphere with some more emphasis on lyric and feel. Thanks for these though, I'll hear em

Tell me what you think of these OP and I can suggest more like them.

Check our Whirr. They're newer and I think they're pretty fantastic. Methadone by The Brian Ones Jonestown Massacre has some fantastic lyrics.

You might like Cranes (again, maybe more on the dreampop side of things? whatever) if you can handle the ridiculous barbie doll vocals.

This is the first EP (it's three songs) from a band called Fleshwater. Heavy influence from Deftones is quite apparent. If you like the latter you'll probably enjoy the former.
