Should forced labor in prisons be illegal?

They should all have to do some sort of job and that job is what covers the expenses of their stay in prison plus a little extra to buy honey buns or some shit. It's even possible they could get some sort of training and be eased into the workforce that way for when they're out. I know there are also programs for helping them get GEDs and shit. If it was like that most of the time then them just sitting in there wouldn't be a drain on taxpayers and being productive while they're there is better for them not going back to whatever ended them up in the slammer in the first place.

Yes, some innocent people are the victims of shitty judges but they're a minority, and gang bangers shouldn't get an easier time because someone imagines there is a guy in there that might not deserve to weaving rugs for walmart.

What about all the innocent people the US loves throwing in jail for crimes like those?

Woman makes a false allegation against you? Sorry dude, it's time to fry.
Its never just a choice between innocent or electric chair, that has never been how the justice system works. But way more people should fry, no doubt. It really depends on the ebidens.

If you rape someone at knifepoint and theres solid proof, then your life should be forfeit. However, if you got wasted and slept with someone who regrets it the day after and frames you, its obviously hard labor for the accusee. And when the false accusation comes to light, the accuser gets the chair.

It might be worth it to keep rape as a lesser sentence than murder tho, otherwise it would be beneficial to kill the person to cover up the crime.

And yet innocent people have gotten executed regardless. I don't trust the government to get my taxes right, much less my fucking life.

I'm tired of anti government people who are suddenly okay with the government, an entity known to majorly fuck up, killing people. Sure some people deserve it, but I am not okay with giving bureaucrats with perverse incentives that power.

This 100%. People who are otherwise skeptical of people and organizations in power will express being totally okay with the government deciding whether or not to take someone's life. Like it's different for emergency services, but once someone is in confinement and not a danger, there is no reason to hand over their literal life to people in power.

If you don't trust the government to build a fucking train station on time and on budget, do you really trust them to decide who to kill?

The government wouldn't nearly be as bad as it is today if it was controlled by the real working people as laid out in the constitution. Meanwhile, people will continue to be inconsistent and apathetic with their criticisms. That's what needs to change in order to get anything done.

Well yeah, innocent people go to prison all the time.

Though nowhere near as many as we're led to believe. Many of these 'innocents' include:

- convicts who get released early on legal technicalities only for lobby groups to distort the story as an overturning of the decision.
- guilty folk who actually do get their sentences overturned after pressure by (usually racial) interest groups like the 'the innocence project'.
- guilty folk who say they're innocent only for gullible people or interest groups to record them as innocent in their statistics.

You don't want a system that profits off the prisoners.
Random non-profit labor in prison, tasks, skills acquirement for low-risk offenders, and so on are all acceptable.

However, if the prison and the government can profit from the labor of inmates, you create a system that incentivizes wrong convictions.

I only support the formal enslavement of people who enter a sovereign state illegally, and go on to commit additional crimes.
Strip them, brand them, work them to death.

My country is not your promised land.
We don't even owe you a quick death.
