I'm trying to understand the chemistry behind this. Yeah, bleach and salt will produce chlorine gas. I'm guessing they are trying to make ammonia gas as reaction between ammonia and sodium hydroxide which would form from the baking soda and salt, but it would be a weak solution. The ammonia and bleach will form chloramine. The chlorine gas will react with the pennies, but it will create cupric chloride, which is fairly harmless. Same with the cupric chloride formed from the chloramine and copper.

It seems like they are mixing several reactions that generate dangerous gases together and its going to produce dangerous gas, but when you put them all together there are going to be all sorts of side reactions, not to mention that the copper will blunt most of the gas production.

I'm guessing there is no sense to most of what is going on here, and this is just meant to kill people by making them inhale a mix of chloramine, ammonia, and chlorine gas.

Considering this came from 2009-era /b/, I doubt the guy who posted this had anything other than a surface-level understanding of chemistry and just thought "ammonia + bleach = mustard gas." I also doubt the "follow-up" post to this was genuine for the same reason.

I guess that it doesn't matter how many reactions it has when just bleach and ammonia is enough to kill you, blowing on solution was a nice touch though
