It's ok. I think a lot of people put their own social/emotional commentary on the show so they for-a-lack-of-better words trauma bond with the media (WAOH I don't feel connected with the world, I FEEL more connected with muh wired).
I watched it awhile back and there is some truth to this. It is definitely geared towards people who are by nature loners with a spiritual bent.

The "wired" is what they called the internet in the show but I took it as a metaphor for the spiritual world. Lain speaks with numerous disembodied entities, is shown to have some type of psychic powers, encounters God, is spied on by glowies, visited by greys, and other things too numerous to list. Also several other characters encounter elements of Lain's experiences and develop psychosis or go insane.

Given all this, I think its fair to say that the show was about Lain disassociating from the world after finding spirituality/esotericism, and the tech/internet stuff was just a metaphor and/or storytelling device.
