Disaster Side Effects of Smoking Marijuana Every Day, According to Science - "It's just muh natural plant"

(s/a)

Marijuana is now legal in more states than ever before, with medical marijuana proving an essential tool to relieve symptoms caused by chemotherapy and AIDS, or for those in chronic pain. Others just use it to relax, especially during stressful times (like the ones we're going through now). But it's important to note that smoking marijuana doesn't come without risks, particularly if you do it every day. Here is what could possibly happen, so you can be aware of the risks as well as the rewards.

Daily marijuana use can lead to "feelings of fatigue or apathy; feelings of anxiety, paranoia, or panic; temporary hallucinations," says Dr. Jenna Liphart Rhoads. As well as, "trouble taking care of oneself and lack of hygiene practices; disconnecting from activities or people they once enjoyed; impaired memory and confusion."

"Chronically inflamed airways that result in a chronic cough, sore throat, or runny nose, and put the user at a higher risk for respiratory diseases or illnesses," says Dr. Rhoads.

"Make no mistake about it, smoking marijuana daily carries with it very real potential for addiction. The National Institute on Drug Abuse estimates that between 9% and 30% of those who use regularly will develop marijuana use disorder," says Dr. Mary Gay. "I have observed significant negative effects on clients who habitually use marijuana including reduced academic performance, job loss, legal consequences, depression, anxiety, and in several cases, psychotic symptoms requiring hospitalization."

"Compared with placebo, marijuana cigarettes cause increases in heart rate, systolic and diastolic blood pressures, and forearm blood flow via increased sympathetic nervous system activity," says Dr. Kim Langdon. "In addition, marijuana has been associated with triggering heart attacks in young male patients. Smoking marijuana has been shown to increase the risk of MI onset by a factor of 4.8 for the 60 minutes after marijuana consumption, and to increase the annual risk of MI in the daily cannabis user from 1.5% to 3% per year."

"Functional MRI studies have also revealed functional and structural changes in brain areas involved in reward processing after chronic cannabis use and in the processing of emotion," says Dr. Langdon. "Some studies show a higher incidence of schizophrenia in chronic adolescent and teenage use of marijuana."

"Daily use of cannabis can desensitize the endocannabinoid system and override its natural capacity to maintain homeostasis. In layman's terms, using medical marijuana too frequently can knock your endocannabinoid system out of whack a bit, which can have an effect (though not always a negative one) on some of your body's natural processes, like your sleeping habits, mood, appetite, memory, and fertility," says Dr. Daniel Whitelocke, M.D., Founder of AR MMJ Cards. "Because the endocannabinoid system was only identified as recently as the 1990s, experts are still working toward fully understanding it."

"Marijuana use during pregnancy can be harmful to your baby's health. The chemicals in marijuana (in particular, tetrahydrocannabinol or THC) pass through your system to your baby and can harm your baby's development," says the CDC. "Some research shows that using marijuana while you are pregnant can cause health problems in newborns— including low birth weight."

Smoking daily increases the chances of having "problems with decreased fertility in both males and females," says Dr. Rhoads. It can also be a factor in erectile dysfunction and premature ejaculation.

"Withdrawal from cannabis seems to induce a lack of motivation. Cognitive dysfunction and memory problems are other potential problems such as abnormal response to stress," says Dr. Langdon. "A clinical diagnosis of cannabis withdrawal includes irritability, anger or aggression, nervousness or anxiety, sleep difficulty, decreased appetite or weight loss, restlessness, depressed mood, and physical symptoms causing significant discomfort such as shakiness or tremors, sweating, fever, chills, and headaches."

"Marijuana is said to be a fantastic muscle relaxant, and people swear by its ability to lessen tremors in Parkinson's disease. I have also heard of its use quite successfully for fibromyalgia, endometriosis, interstitial cystitis, and most other conditions where the final common pathway is chronic pain," says Peter Grinspoon, MD, writing for the Harvard Health Blog. "Marijuana is also used to manage nausea and weight loss and can be used to treat glaucoma. A highly promising area of research is its use for PTSD in veterans who are returning from combat zones. Medical marijuana is also reported to help patients suffering from pain and wasting syndrome associated with HIV, as well as irritable bowel syndrome and Crohn's disease."

I have first hand experience of weed making someone go bugfuck crazy. There was a guy in my friend-group in late secondary/early college years who was a great guy other than the fact that he constantly smoked weed, and i mean constantly. He didn't even really get stoned anymore after a while because his tolerance was so high.

Most of us went off to college at 18 but he took a "gap year" which just ended up with him doing the occasional bit of casual bar work in between spending his days smoking weed and watching DVD boxsets. We'd still hang out with him at the weekend and everything was all good until we got word that he had been committed to a psych facility after trying to burn his parents house down.

Apparently he thought he was the second coming of Jesus and spent hours upon hours reading over the bible until he became convinced that it was all lies fabricated by Satan to try to trick him into becoming his successor. At some point he decided that money was the literal root of all evil so he withdrew all of his from the bank and lit it on fire in his bedroom, severely damaging the house.

He spent 18 months locked up in a closed ward, the doctors told him it was 100% down to the amount of weed he was smoking and that he would be on psych meds for the rest of his life. When you meet him now and talk to him it's like talking to a robot and he still has to live at home with his parents because he is unemployable.

Pretty much any stoner woth their salt could have told you much of this since forever. Daily use can get fucky for a lot of people, be careful and set limits or you'll turn into a total bum. Don't touch it when you're young or it'll fry your poor developing brain. Some people just go fucking psycho when they get a whiff and should never be around it ever. Yada yada, it's been folk knowledge, but having that set apart from the bullshit via actual research is still important.

Surprise surprise, drugs are still drugs even if Uncle Sam says they're kosher. This shit is not magical and I don't know why this is controversy. Is this that same phenomenon where we've spent so long yelling about how pot shouldn't be Schedule 1 that now the idiots think that it's just like smelling tulips?

Weed does change your personality; if it didn't, smoking it would have no effect. You can't dose yourself with anything mind-altering on a constant basis and expect it to not have a permanent effect. People seem to love making the alcohol comparison but I have been on the wrong end of a stoner freakout multiple times in my life and I can tell you it is not fucking pretty at all.

It probably doesn't matter anymore since people are just fucked up all the time on new shit anyway. I wish they'd just legalize everything and let society get on with destroying itself already, I don't fucking care anymore.

Literally 0% of the people I know who started smoking in highschool or college ever amounted to jack or shit. One of the saddest, I know a guy who is quite literally probably a musical prodigy. He can play anything you put in his hands, and I don't mean he can just plunk out a few tunes. He's amazing. He got a full-ride scholarship to a prestigious music school, the whole everything. He dropped out after the first year. Well, failed out. He never did shit, spent all his money on pot and junk, was on the hook for repaying all his scholarships, became a borderline bum living at the sufferance of his girlfriend before he married her. The highest he's ever achieved in life is playing dive bars in a rural area.

Yeah, smoked pot since highschool. Do I know, 100%, that's why he went to hell? No. But... c'mon. It's not hard to figure out.

The only semi-regular smokers I know who seem to manage it are ones who started doing it after they were already "established", mature, and well into adulthood.

You can say what you want about tobacco (noxious and disgusting beyond belief) or booze (all sorts of problems), but I've known plenty of of people who messed with them in their youth who turned out fine. I mean, approximately 110% of college students drank, and about 50-75% of high schoolers I knew drank, to some extent.

Of the legal drugs, or legal-adjacent anyways, weed seems to be unique in its ability to completely ruin a developing person.

I never really cared for weed, to be completely honest. Tried it a few times but I could never get all that into it.

Then again, when it comes to drugs, I'm more into booze and even I quit that just to save money.

That said, I agree marijuana should be federally legalized, taxed, and regulated same as tobacco and alcohol are, but it's not some harmless magic herb or anything like so many Millennials and Zoomers seem to think.

TLDR - Don't smoke weed every day. Save it for special occasions or at least only smoke on weekends.

WEED MELTS YOUR BRAIN AND MAKES YOU LAZY, STUPID AND INEFFECTIVE. USERS WHO REPORT OTHERWISE ARE EXPERIENCING AN STATE OF SCHIZOPHRENIA INDUCED BY THE SOMASOCIAL PARTICLES THEY INHALE NEAR-CONSTANTLY. WEED IS THE WORST ADDICTIVE SUBSTANCE UNKNOWN TO MAN.

HERE ARE THE TELL-TALE SIGNS OF WEED ADDICTION:

1) "WEEDS NOT ADDICTIVE BRO, DUDE REEFER MADNESS!"

2) EXCESSIVE USAGE OF DATED SLANG.

3) INABILITY TO ADMIT DESTRUCTIVE SIDE-EFFECTS OF THEIR SUBSTANCE ABUSE

I.E. ASKY ANY CRACKHEAD, DOPE FIEND OR ALCOHOLIC AND THEY WILL TELL YOU ALL THE WAYS IT SUCKS.

4) A WEED ADDICT WILL MINDLESSLY REPEAT THE EXACT SAME PRO-WEED TALKING POINTS.

5) A WEED ADDICT WILL CITE ONE OR MORE FAKE MENTAL ILLNESSES (LIKE ANXIETY, DEPRESSION, ETC) THE SYMPTOMS OF WHICH USUALLY MANIFEST AS WITHDRAWAL SYMPTOMS.

6) WEED ADDICTS ARE PRONE TO VIOLENCE WHEN YOU REFUSE TO ACCEPT THEIR TALKING POINTS.

HERE ARE THE FACTS

THERE IS NO SCIENTIFIC EVIDENCE FOR ANY BENEFIT TO SMOKING WEED.

ALL "EVIDENCE" CITED IS PURE MEMETICS, LIES TOLD FOR DECADES THAT HAVE INFESTED THE MAJORITY OF THE POPULATION.

A DESIRE TO "FEEL GOOD" SHOULD BE THE BIGGEST RED FLAG OF ALL.

THEY WORSHIP THIS PLANT LIKE A GOD AND OFFER THEIR BODIES, THEIR SOULS, THEIR DIGNITY IN ITS NAME.

WEED ADDICTS WILL STEAL, MURDER AND LIE TO GET THEIR NEXT FIX. THE SAME AS ANY OTHER ADDICT.

YOU WILL BE ABLE TO SPOT THE PLANT-WORSHIPPING WEED ADDICTS BECAUSE THEY WILL DISAGREE IN THE INDUCED "CALM", RATIONAL MANNER OF A COMFORT JUNKIE. THEY WILL CITE PAID-FOR ADVERTISEMENTS (9 OUT OF 10 DOCTORS SMOKE LUCKY STRIKES). THEY WILL STAMMER AND DODGE THE POINT. THEY WILL USE SOFT DECEPTIVE LANGUAGE. THEY WILL NOT NEG-RATE OUT OF FEAR OF EXPOSURE. THEY WILL PRETEND TO AGREE. THEY WILL TYPE MULTIPLE PARAGRAPHS, BUT PARANOIA WILL MAKE THEM SPLIT IT AMONGST POSTS AIMED AT DIFFERENT USERS. BUT THEY MUST REPLY. THEY MUST DEFEND THEIR PLANT GOD.

CALL THEM STUPID, LAZY, WEAK AND THEY WILL HEAR VIRTUES.

CALL THEM AN ADDICT, A JUNKIE AND SEE HOW THEY RECOIL.

Weed back in the 60's maybe. The stuff now that you can smell from a mile away? That shit is nasty. Have fun with your lowered testosterone and weight gain.
Slight pl but when I used to smoke regularly I lost a shit ton of weight because I recognized that eating killed the high, and my natural jewishness kicked in and I stopped eating to extend the high. Every person's experience with the devils lettuce will be different, but I wish we can be more mature and recognize that Marijuana isn't this completely harmless substance and carries real risks if used frequently and habitually.

Every single person I've met that was stoner in high school is basically retarded. It's like they stopped developing past 16.

Weed is a psychedelic, a mild one sure, but nonetheless. It will definitely fuck with your head and bring out latent mental issues or exacerbate existing ones. It's definitely not for everyone.

It's fine to smoke occasionally just like it's fine to drink occasionally. But anyone saying they can smoke daily with no ill effects is probably a colossal retard without an ounce of introspection.

In the medieval era, the magic that made beer, cider, and mead was called Goddisgoode... Literally, "God is good". Yeast, and the alcohol it created, was seen as proof God loves us, basically.

Fuck off, stoner. Your drug is no more magic than any other.
Dude, like, stop being so, like, aggressive and stuff, man. Like, take a hit or two, man, like, chill yourself out, man. You're like, killing my buzz, man. You should, like, smoke weed every day like Snoop Dogg, man, you'll like, live to be a hundred years old, man.

It's hilarious how many people are taking the bait. I believe Ben Franklin said beer is proof that God loves us or whatever, but I do find it hilarious how so many people think weed is great and harmless because it's natural or something. You mean like toadstools? Why not smoke those, then?

Not a stoner and don't smoke daily. Don't even buy weed, grow my own. Wouldn't even argue that anything you ingest constantly or daily can cause long term issues, it can.

But I'm older than most here. With age comes aches and pains, in my case, arthritis particularly in my knees some days that damn near cripples me. A couple of tokes works wonders at relieving the pain. It's a better solution than big pharma pills, at least for me.

Anybody that walks around stoned out of their gourd (on whatever) all day is going to have life issues. Have known several of the "wake and bake" types over the years, basically oblivious to the world around them. I could never be one of those people; life is good and I enjoy it too much to become totally numb to it.

That said, life is also the choices you make as we all stumble our way through it. I choose to take a couple tokes when needed to continue my stumble without pain, only when needed. Works for me, you do what works for you.
