Silent Hill

You know what pisses me off with the Angela redesign defense? Everyone has missed the fucking point. No, Angela isn’t supposed to “look her age” because she’s a fucking rape victim. The ENTIRE point was that she looks older because she underwent trauma (as cringe as Konami has made “trauma” sound). But you know, leave it to redditors to COMPLETELY miss the point.
Angela's original design was supposed to look haunted and clearly troubled, but not unattractive. The thought might cross a player's mind that she might blossom into a love interest before the end of the game, or have at least considered her somewhat pretty during the first encounter (CGI more than in-game model, perhaps). That thought crossing the players mind then jackknifes into her suicide ideation and increasingly unhinged mental state, to the point where when she proposes what James could do to support her any of those feelings are utterly demolished.

You don't get that same effect if she isn't at least somewhat pretty, to light that spark of consideration in the player before it is torturously snuffed out.

Nope, they made her a butterface. For the Art.

This scene is actually laughably bad, what were they thinking?
What I can't get over is the faces. They look terrible.

Except Laura's, which makes me really suspicious.

That part I don't get. Of all characters, they get the little girl basically right to not trigger the uncanny valley effect?

They don't get the symbolism at all, and they think the original is broken and needs to be fixed so MoDeRn AuDiEnCeS can consume it better.
Maria is SUPPOSED to look like a whore (Christina Aguilera technically, but still), she's supposed to contrast with this:

This is the first time you "meet" Mary in the game, and it's just her clothes, because apart from her clothes she looks identically to Maria
You see Maria immediately in the bathroom on posters near the door. You can immediately see a photo of Mary and her false letter in the beginning.

Jesus christ, there's next to no communication via body language, the delivery is just flat as fuck. It's like Maria's actress was just reading the line off the paper. There's no more sultry turn, posing, and smiling from Maria. And no surprise and realisation in James' tone.

I can't be the only one who sees this:

NuLaura looks really off in some animations to me, like they mocapped an older woman and then poorly plastered the data to a kid model, and she also sounds like a grown woman putting a childish voice. In the OG you can tell her actress was an actual kid.

Though I'm holding off on watching more until some lolcow who claims to be a fan of the original streams their playthrough in its entirety, the impression I'm getting so far is that somebody who utterly missed the point of the original's casting choices is trying to recreate the "spirit" of the original performances through incompetently directing the actors to be as awkward, stilted, monotone, and autistic as possible, with hilarious results. I'm looking forward to subsequent interviews attempting to pile on excuses for this:

"The haters didn't want to understand - I did everything right! I even made sure everything was bad; like in the original! Then Konami blamed me for making a bad game! Isn't that what everybody wanted? They should have thanked me for how painstakingly bad I took the time to make it!."

Also, why does the new Maria have such a large head compared to her body? It looks ridiculous.

They don't need to pander to the Funko Pop crowd more than they have already.

God I hate the western gaming trend of making 3D models of women with a huge head.

what the fuck, so it's not just my imagination. First the new Dragon Age. And after watching a James meeting Big-Head Maria original VS remake comparison scene, now Silent Hill 2.

What's wrong with Western game developers? First it was a trend of uglifying video game women. Now it's a trend of giving them uncanny valley big heads.

Compare that to the almost photo-realistic Death Stranding 2 characters where their heads and torso are proportional and the difference is night and day.

I found the full scene. Yeah... it's wank.

We have cutting edge mocap tech, let's squander the shit out of it.
The lack of body movement really bothers me. From all the scenes I have seen, James across Angela at the graveyard, just standing there like a plank speaking the lines he was given. This scene with Maria. It's all just so lifeless, they may as well be T-posing.

WHY IS YOUR HEAD SO BIG

BRING THE DIALOG UP TO MODERN STANDARDS

MUCH MORE REALISTIC SOUNDING
IT’S SUPPOSED TO BE AWKWARD CHUD

Fanboys do not enjoy the media they are fans of. They enjoy justifying their enjoyment. It makes me them feel special, a part of a select group. Maria and James could have screamed out literal faeces from their mouths and fanboys would still find ways of saying it was a touching experience. These people have no internal thoughts to discern actual quality. If it is present, its good.

James, Angela, and Eddie are all murderers. It's a nice narrative influenced by Crime And Punishment. I find it fascinating since they all go their own ways about dealing with it. Eddie is a coward who runs away and can't accept his issues so the town torments him even though he has never killed anyone, only manifestations of guilt until he tries to kill James. James was coming to the town to kill himself after killing Mary but forgot, and his mind or the town or both formed an aliby, backstory for his crime while his guilt is more hidden amongst the environment and monsters, the many corpses that are James representing his initial suicidal ideation. James also became a bit of an alcoholic while Mary was sick, buried his sorrorws deep in booze until Silent Hill wiped his mind if you check the flavor text at heavens night. Angela was running away to Silent Hill after murdering her father but deals with suicidal ideation the most and she is the most troubled but somewhat realistic depiction of a traumatized girl, regressive like confusing James for her "Mama".

Sorry Yamaoka but that new arrangement of Null Moon is atrocious.

Just throwing a few thoughts out there and trying to brainstorm something and maybe formulate counter-arguments.

I'm hearing arguments that if you're a fan of OG SH2 and don't like where remake SH2 is going, you are either "blinded by nostalgia" or you're a "boomer that hates new things"

1) If you think new SH2 is better than old SH2, then you're also effectively saying old SH2 is worse than new SH2. Old SH2 is perfect the way it is, or near-perfect. Why do you think it is regarded so highly by so many fans 20 years later? So how can new SH2 be better when old SH2 is perfect?

2) Old SH2 is highly regarded because it is the creation of "Team Silent", the old dev team. The devs handling the port (Bloober) were in no way involved in any of the OG SHs (1~4). The only returning old devs is the creature artist and music composer. Without the original writer's input (probably the most important part of a story driven game like this), this is just a pale imitation fan fiction.

3) Let's assume their arguments are valid and Remake SH2 is superior to OG SH2 and that fans of OG SH2 are racist and sexist incel boomers. What happens if there is a Silent Hill 2 Re-remake? Will the Remake SH2 fans be the new racist and sexist incel boomers? Or will they transition once again and get excited to consume the new product?

4) No matter how many ports, remakes, remasters, reboots or reimaginings, there can only be one OG. Without that OG, there would be no remakes etc. It has value just by being an OG. It's not just an OG, it's a 9/10 or 10/10 OG. How on earth do you improve a 10/10 game?

Its safe to assume that the shills will have a high level of representation from outsourced PR companies.

Its also safe to assume that the grognards will have a high level of representation from hipster faggots who never played the original game but have watched the hell out of some retard's youtube video about it. Or better yet haven't even done that but man do they crave the fake clout.

Honestly it's kind of pointless to even compare the Original SH2 to the remake. Gameplay wise they're so different it would only make sense that there would be people who like one of them and dislike the other. SH2 is a survival horror game that doesn't have a lot of action. The remake looks a lot like a action game from what we've seen. This has nothing to do with when the game came out or how old the person with the opinion is.
