Silent Hill

Look at how they butchered Eddie. Going from having insane, angry eyes and being genuinely enraged in the meat freezer, to being vaguely slightly upset. I can't believe this.
They thought making a pitbull look like a pug was somehow going to make it scarier, not make it look retarded.

I guess it makes sense the SJWs fucked up Eddie, Eddie is the de facto mirror of who they are. A pretentious naive newcomer that will literally gorge and rape whoever or whatever when given the chance.

Which also explains why the entire plot is just suicidal ideation instead of a case study on multiple sociopathic behaviors. These tumblr-level faggots are still stuck in their teenaged mindsets, only knowing basic bitch level emotions cuz muh hard life or whatever excuse it is now.
I moreso mentioned it due to the fact it was fresh in my brain because it just came out. It's more of a remaster apparently, though it was originally supposed to be a remake. It could still be argued it didn't need a remaster, but if it was made to bring it to modern consoles I can't complain. Perhaps a better comparison would be Dead Rising or The Last Of Us. I want them to remaster lollipop chainsaw like Hi-fi rush where she chainsaws to the beat, and her DT is just the VA singing along to the song.

Rhytmn-based DMC-likes would be so fucking awesome since instead of the Arkhamverse light alerts, it can be music-based.

Completed my first playthrough - The gameplay is absolutely fine, and what I expected of a modern remake of SH2. I enjoyed the atmosphere and the remix of puzzles. Giving otherworld versions of the enemies different attacks was a good call. They also did a good job of making the otherworld few disgusting, although there's a bit too much blood and rust, which was Alessa's thing, and should focused more on the gloom and decay. The memberberries moments are completely unnecessary, they go full MGS4 with it, rather than just being subtle, neat callbacks that you can find in the environment, but not interact with.
I'm disappointed that the great knife isn't a useable weapon, you just drag it around for about a minute to get past a goopy wall instead.

All the negatives are pretty much the characters' acting, line deliveries, and the music. It really feels like the cutscenes are too "impatient". The pauses inbetween certain line delvieries are not long enough, and of course, they just feel very lifeless and flat in comparison. Angela speaking to James in the final scene where it goes first-person, followed by James looking down at the ground in shame is absent. James speaking to Mary in the flashback of the final hallway is also gone.

This "remake" had an opportunity to be unique (and far scarier) with fixed camera angles, but no, they gutted one of the defining features of the game for no good reason.

Both Heavy Rain and Until Dawn were plenty successful despite the fixed camera angles. Modern audiences are not inherently afraid of them. Bloober's just so creatively bankrupt, trend-chasey, and arrogant, that they wrote it off without any reservations.

i havent played silent hill 1 for hundreds of years but the way the camera angle pitches and changes as you walk through the alley at the start of the game is still fresh in my mind. it was a masterful way to establish the unsettling atmosphere and theme of the world becoming twisted around you

videogames are dead

That has nothing to do with tumblr, woke, SJWs, or whatever

That's just Bloober's thing. They think suicide is the coolest, deepest, most awesomest and noble thing ever.
It's in every single one of their games. And done just as poorly, yes.

This also explains why Pyramid Head is all weird and jittery - they think that's the scariest fucking thing ever, speeding up animations and removing frames. If you slow him down, you can find the points at which they removed in-between frames and just snap between keyframes, which is something they've done with all the spookums.

Am I mixing up games again? Isn't the SH2Make the one where some retardo SJW dev gloated that his sooper speshiul game DIDN'T get concorded while gloating about how he made the game for "modern audiences?"

Something that really irked me is that instead of James saying “No, I would never kill myself”, he’s completely silent. It’s such an important part of his character, especially if you’re going for the in water ending, and yet it was entirely absent. They should’ve kept the dialogue word for word.

I couldn't put my finger on what the new Eddie reminded me of and then it clicked. The Throgmortons from Sinking City.
He looks like he should be from Innsmouth.

Yes, I remember thinking the same thing. I don't know why they took that away.

Apparently Bloober has a surface-level understanding of how emotions work much less the nuances of different forms of psychosis and thinks being mentally ill = being suicidal.

You never get the callousness of James, the surface level care he uses to hide his true nature, and the sheer denial he killed his own wife. Which is why he would "never kill himself" btw. Narcs/Sociopaths NEVER want to kill themselves, maybe fake a suicide for attention but not actual killing on purpose.

You never get Eddie's anxiety issues leading to overeating and how making people like them "confident" will make everything worse.

You don't get Angela's arrested development from being raped by her dad and how the fetishing of revenge by people abused will NEVER work, ever. Revenge won't unrape you. Forget if SH2 also dives into how this kind of abuse is also learned behavior so she also becomes an abuser.

Nor I guess the schizophrenia with Maria involving intrusive thoughts and memories that aren't her own and the sheer desperation these kinds of illnesses have to cling to SOME form of reality - which will almost always end up not being actual reality itself.

All four are just... diminished into I'm depressed, please kill me.

Yup. The whole hypocritical aspect of his character is missing. He’s meant to have a “holier than thou” attitude to Angela and Eddie when he’s not much better himself. I also noticed that the dialogue after James kills Eddie is missing. Again, James saying he just killed someone is purposeful because he had already killed his wife.

This is also something else I had a problem with. The original was very purposeful with Angela’s voice and dialogue making her sound like a child while she looked like she was in her mid 20’s. There’s supposed to be a clear disconnect between the two. The remake completely fucks it up.

What did this Geller dipshit even do for the game? Why was his consultation needed? He is a repulsive dumb fuck. What did he provide? It can't be anything good.

My attitude regarding SH2R is not dissimilar to how Mike Stoklasa felt about Star Trek 2009.
"A lot of people seem to misinterpret this metaphorical review to mean that the producers raped Star Trek. What I mean is that the producers took Star Trek and turn it into something that would have its way with the audience, whether we liked it or not; and in the end some of us liked what they did, even if we didn't want it or need it. You gotta understand that Hollywood is not a democracy. Star Trek fans can't really vote on what will be the next incarnation of Star Trek. It happened. It was coming and we couldn't stop it. We had to take it, even if it was up our ass"

It was hard for me to muster the energy to be indignant towards a watered down, less subtle, less scary remake of one of the greatest horror games of all time because to me it was an inevitability. Even with the controversy of the characters looking like they tried to run a marathon while having the mumps, I just shrugged and looked away. The only thing that bugs me is the notion of people being introduced to the Silent Hill franchise via an underwhelming remake of one of its best games, but what can you do? This property has been dead for years, so its not like it was being treated with respect prior to Bloober Team putting their stink all over it.

These moments all exist so that the moments in which James overtly reacts with denial, indignation, or panic jump out enough to indicate story progression.
I also hate in the remake that when James confronts Eddie he now punches him to get the gun out of his face and no longer seems to foolishly antagonize Eddie. They soften James's intentional moment of frustration and lack of emotional depth with a moment of self defence I guess to make James seem less retarded or Eddie more outwardly villainous.

I mean, I get the general optimism surrounding the remake. You have to remember that Silent Hill was getting violently raped with bad sequels after 3 dropped, not even 4 is really what I would call a good game. Homecoming, Shattered Memories, Downpour, all these games are also just soft remakes of SH2 anyway since the twist in each is that the protagonist killed someone and forgor.

Despite traipsing over the legacy of the original game, I can't really get upset about it because Konami has been digging up SH2 for years now to parade it around for cheap cash. At least this game just dropped the pretense, and it looks nice and is somewhat competently made, which is not something you can say about the post-4 trilogy.
