There wont be a trial. None of the cops died because the dude could not aim, so the prosecutor will cut him a deal of just one life sentence for attempted murder of a peace officer. He may get parole in a decade or three. Otherwise they go to trial for two consecutive life sentences and he dies in prison.

You know, when I made this thread two and a half years ago I never expected this to be how everything culminated. With his insanity and his growing interest in firearms, all I can say is that I’m shocked but not surprised.

Seems like his mental state was continuously spiraling downward. seems accurate based on when I met him. At first he was mostly chill, if a bit off. He wasn’t the argumentative nutcase I knew him as when he made a stink and got banned from the group I was in.

I’ve shown this article to everyone who had the misfortune of interacting with him alongside me and everyone agrees that this is very in-character for him. Stubborn insane man with a gun confronted by cops? No one is surprised it ended like this.

The only thing I really have to add is that it’s super fucking surreal to have spoken with a dude who would later get into a shootout with the cops. I sorta know the surreal feeling. Though the best I can claim is that I was a supervisor, at an anime convention, of somebody who later turned out to be into child pornography (his arrest made the news). It was creepy to find out because kids go to those things, and he made it a point to work at the con while homeless. Had I known... had anybody known... I would have tossed him right the fuck out.

I find it horrifying that most furry cons apparently don't give a single solitary fuck about letting in registered sex offenders.

Insanity defenses are actually really difficult to pull off nowadays. Basically his lawyers would have to show that he didn't know shooting a cop was wrong. It doesn't matter if he was otherwise crazy.

His best bet to avoid prison is to come out of his coma so fucked in the head that he couldn't participate in his own defense. They'll put him in a mental hospital for "restoration to competency." Eventually they might just forget about him in there.

His biggest problem is he shot a cop. Neither the prosecutor (unless they're liberal) or police union (almost never liberal) is gonna be in a hurry to let that slide.
