This happened with women, and now it's starting to happen with others as well. It's funny that they complain about it always being men - maybe because men don't complain about how they're portrayed, so they're viewed as "safe"? for pete's sake this mindset is so damaging to creators because they're scared that they'll do something wrong so they don't have the character like that entirely.
That's been my beef with being an artist. You really shouldn't have to please anyone.

lol wtf who gives a shit about the simpsons is this 1997?
President Bush Sr. actually made it a point to sperg out on Bart Simpson publicly as a poor role model and that shows like The Simpsons were destructive to the fabric of American culture & family values. It's cited more strongly in one of those 'history of the Simpsons' fanbooks, can't remember a title.

"In one moment during his presidency, Bush made a speech about family values and how the American family ought to be "more like the Waltons and less like the Simpsons." In response, before the first rerun of "Stark Raving Dad", the show made a clip of the Simpsons watching Bush's speech on television. Bart responded saying, "Hey, we're like the Waltons. We're praying for an end to the depression, too."

Point is that the show ended up having a stronger cultural footprint than anyone ever expected, which is why fags are fighting over its legacy in the first place.

It's hilarious how this will likely be this man's legacy. Not his (incredibly medicore) comedy, but pathetically trying and failing to get a show that is ancient by animation standards to change a beloved character because of his hurt feels.
What's even sadder is he attacks it when it's pretty much a husk of what it used to be. Ironically probably getting it more views and keeping it around longer than it should be. Hell it should have ended after season 10 or 11. Now the Simpsons are really boring and unfunny compared when it was written back in the 90's. If anything, Bumblebee man and Krusty are way worse than Apu. Krusty really fits the self-hating Jew stereotype and Bumblebee guy is a spoof on Mexican TV, which is really that outlandish.

I used to work for an Indian guy in high school and he thought Apu was hilarious. Mostly because the stereotype is true. The guy owned a motel and was your stereotypical Indian.

As a standup comic in a profession frequently attacked and chill affected by SJWs, Hari Kondabolu is a giant fucking pussy for all of this. Even Patton Oswalt, known to left sperg on Twitter, makes rape jokes on his albums and doesn't launch crusades against 30-year-old IPs.

Pro wrestler Alberto Del Rio took offense at someone making the Bumblebee remark. And it never made public headlines yet Apu gets all the attention.

The problem is we take a single PoC's opinion who has the remotest bit of influence as God. The problem is that if all PoC's opinions are relevant and important, than so are the ones that don't care. The problem is that these faggots always have an agenda to push so they ignore all the other PoCs that have different opinions and worship the one they want. They're hypocritical faggots and always will be.

I'm childish, I know...

In the end, there's nothing wrong with having an accent.

EDIT: Matt Groening certainly was right when he said of how people like to pretend they're offended in this case. People certainly do pick at things that bother them the most, even when it's relevancy is moot.

Looks like everyone's favorite store clerk might be getting the ban hammer soon...
After a year of controversy surrounding the character of Apu, the hit animated show ‘The Simpsons’ may soon be dropping the character from the show.

The impact and lasting legacy of the fictional Apu Nahasapeemapetilon (voiced by Hank Azaria), has been sharply debated since the debut of comedian Hari Kondabolu's documentary “The Problem With Apu” in November 2017, which examined the stereotypes about Indian Americans that Apu embodied. The documentary featured several South Asian celebrities and newsmakers, including comedian Aparna Nancherla and actor Kal Penn, as they recalled the way Apu made them reflect on their own identities.

Social media began buzzing on Friday when IndieWire published an interview with film producer Adi Shankar, who told the site that he had heard from several people close to "The Simpsons" that Apu would soon be dropped from the animated show. While Shankar is not affiliated with "The Simpsons" or its network Fox, he began a contest in April inviting creators to write scripts in which the character of Apu is reimagined beyond his current portrayal of a stereotypical Indian immigrant.

“I’ve verified from multiple sources now: They’re going to drop the Apu character altogether,” Shankar told IndieWire. “They aren’t going to make a big deal out of it, or anything like that, but they’ll drop him altogether just to avoid the controversy.”

Shankar would not elaborate on his IndieWire interview when reached by phone by NBC News, stating that he didn't want to give away his source. A spokesperson for Fox released a statement from “Simpsons” executive producer Al Jean to NBC News stating, “Apu appeared in the 10/14/18 episode 'My Way or the Highway to Heaven.'"

In response to the rumors that Apu might be written out of "The Simpsons," Kondabolu said he wasn't necessarily thrilled. “There are so many ways to make Apu work without getting rid of him. If true, this sucks," he tweeted.

Since its premiere last year, Kondabolu's “The Problem With Apu” has opened up a wide-ranging conversation about stereotyping, typecasting, and the lack of diversity in comedy. Azaria, who has voiced the character since "The Simpsons" debuted in 1989, told late night host Stephen Colbert in April that he was willing to "step aside" from the character.

In April, "The Simpsons" attempted to slyly address the controversy through a storyline that saw Simpsons matriarch Marge trying to share her favorite childhood book with her daughter Lisa, only to realize it was more offensive than she remembered.

“Something that started decades ago and was applauded and inoffensive is now politically incorrect. What can you do?” Lisa asks before a photo of Apu appears on screen.

“Some things will be dealt with at a later date,” Marge says.

"If at all," Lisa adds.

That episode was criticized for missing the point of the conversation started by "The Problem With Apu."

As for Kondabolu himself, he has consistently said that he does not find the character hurtful, but rather that he viewed Apu as a lazy depiction of an entire culture.

“I don’t find Apu offensive, I find him annoying and insulting," he said. “But for me, one: It’s inaccurate. Two: It’s insulting to my parents. And three: When that's the only depiction you have, that’s how the world sees you.”
