Is it possible that we are living in a simulation? Because nobody knows how the first cell was created, or exactly how the big bang happened, and if we are in a simulation designed by computers, or people, how was their universe created? or do they even have a universe?

I've been stuck on this question for weeks, any ideas?

Why might not the world WHICH CONCERNS US—be a fiction? And to any one who suggested: ‘But to a fiction belongs an originator?’—might it not be bluntly replied: WHY? May not this ‘belong’ also belong to the fiction? Is it not at length permitted to be a little ironical towards the subject, just as towards the predicate and object? Might not the philosopher elevate himself above faith in grammar?

he's been dead for over a hundred years so you're a little late

The real questions should be if the earth is a simulation what are the goals of the simulation? How do we as potentially limited AI ruin the simulation for whatever/whoever created us?

Maybe we are a simulation. But the individuals who are running it are long dead and we're just going on and on. There's a Star Trek TOS episode kinda like this. But I can't remember if it was a simulation or legit time travel. But the planet was dying due to severe climate change. So the populace transferred themselves to better points in the planet's history. But no one was running the machine anymore because anyone left behind had long since died.

No. But I do think it is entirely possible that we could be what basically equates to an ant farm for some giant alien being. Maybe billions of these aliens share the same hobby, on their world, each with their own “earth farm” and they watch fascinated by the buzz of activity of these tiny, apparently mindless creatures.

I was presented with this scenario recently. I offered to kick the guy in the balls, on the grounds that if this isn’t real, it shouldn’t hurt. He pointed out that pain could be coded into the illusion. Then I offered to kick him in the balls again and he abandoned the subject. Thus, reality is proven.
