SJW Art and Extremes

Why does Tumblr have an obsession with vitiligo?

  • Suicide Girl model and America's Next Top Model contestant have it, spread on Tumblr, that's why.

Erm, I think you linked to the wrong blog.
Here's the correct link.

I actually see people talk about Smokey Quartz and Sugilite negatively if they are brought up. They call them racist despite literally being the same tumblr art they produce. It makes no fucking sense.
I've come across other SJWs who praise Smokey Quartz for being a positive example of a disabled person (the extra arms).

As far as humanizations go, that face doesn't scream Spongebob, it screams something else. Like it may of came from Jojo or something else before being pinned on a long running childrens show.

As I said before, I definitely see Spongebob looking more like a young, blond Jerry Lewis. Heck, the artist didn't even get the clothes right.

I've been trying to figure out what bothered me the most about tumblr art in general.

It's definitely not that the characters are purposefully drawn ugly (in fact I can dig it), I think it's the fact that 99% of it is completely uninspired.

1. Static poses with minimal gesture. Even the movement most of them attempt looks stiff or unnatural. Poses include standing, standing with legs apart, and walking.
2. Never any backgrounds. If there is a background is a gradient or some sort of minimalist pattern.
3. Nothing facially expressive. You get two faces: neutral or general smile.
4. Complete lack of polish. I think they just want to doodle forever or think the crayon brush in Paint Tool Sai makes them look quirky idk.
5. No imagination outside of tumblr fashion and insert fatty/generic brown person.

It's usually just a person standing there, on a white background - character design mockups have more personality than this so they can't use that excuse. Some of it has to do with a few artists being young and still learning, but quite a number of them have been doing the same stuff for YEARS with barely any improvement or anything inspired ever coming out of them (in fact, just taking a peek at some of the very talented SJW artists on here from earlier in the thread from two years ago, quite a few of them have actually regressed and aren't even remotely as polished as they were before). It's just bland with no life in it aside from the vomit of color they like to throw in. Their art says absolutely nothing. Even quite a few who do the opposite of my little list in some of their pieces are still boring as fuck to look at.

Weird ass fetish artists on Deviant Art with 10% of the technical skill compared to many of these artists are more inspiring and interesting (and not just interesting because it's spongebob shitting in a diaper.)

Probably cos the weird fetish artists actually care about what they're doing (whether it be out of actually having the fetish or, well, money for the ones who draw the weird shit on commission), whereas a lot of the tumblr art seems more like half-assed virtue signaling than anything else. Hard to put a semblance of passion into your work when you're worried if your depiction will get you ripped apart for drawing a character "too light" or "too thin" or anything else that doesn't line up with the hivemind of "headcanons".

Your post motivated me to share my own thoughts since I've been following this thread from the beginning. Just speaking from the angle of fan art:

I'm starting to think that Tumblr artists are more concerned about hopping on the trend trains as fast as possible, which is why a lot of these sjw artists pump out so much crap with so little improvement (or regression). They try to hit all the points (uwu tucute neon trans vitiligo cinnamonroll with some HAES, etc.) in one go and get as many likes/reblogs/follows out of it. This is why we see lots of fan art from the same artist with 're-imagined' headcanons that are all the same boxy brown Queery McTranstrans and ???noses??? that are that character in name only.

I think this is also why a lot of more business-focused artists, especially ones who do fan art to give themselves more exposure, stop participating with Tumblr culture or just leave altogether.

Compare that to dA where, thanks to how organized the watch lists are, tagging, and groups catering to interests, artists aren't really driven to that sort of thing; even the most questionable of fetish artists have room and incentive to grow without feeling like they need to follow a social trend train (outside of their own little circles).

... whereas a lot of the tumblr art seems more like half-assed virtue signaling than anything else.

Wow, I hadn't considered this due to the fact I'm pretty new to that term. May the biggest SJW art activist win, etc.
