They say it like Rory gets any slack???
Literally everyone is shitting on her and even all of her classmates IRL avoid her now.

Though, I do think ridiculing someone's art publicly like that is kind of cruel, even though that art is ugly. (Tbh, just fixing the faces would make it more tolerable to look at)
Rory deserved hers though and she gets WAY more shit.
So, I don't really get the complain here?

Went on their blog and this art is much better to the eye. I don't know, it's just like the first pic posted somehow seemed extremely unsettling. Their other art seems pretty normal as well. I guess sometimes we all have a case of the "i can't draw today"
Their facial expressions are more neutral, and the angles are more simplistic (facing forward instead of 3/4) which I think helps a bit. That being said, the blush on the faces and knees look awful, they look dirty/sick

It's less hideous, but the one on the far left looks like a dude.

Totally agree here. I have no clue why "blush on the knees, shoulders, and elbows" is such a big trend tumblr is fascinated with

Ugh, I always hate fuckers like this for how blatantly self serving they are. Go through the feed of any of them and you're guaranteed to find tweets/reblogs/whatever of them jumping on the bandwagon to make fun of the artists like Rory, or plebcomics, or the artists who work on Steven Universe, or any of the other people who've been deemed "acceptable targets" for ridicule, while at the same time throwing the biggest bitch fits you've ever seen at the slightest whiff of someone sending even the gentlest of ribbings their way. And if anyone ever points out the hypocrisy of this, they'll perform all sorts of mental gymnastics to rationalize it as being different somehow.

I realize I'm a minority on this front, but I've always felt that any sort of art people put on the internet, including your own, is open to any and all sorts of criticism, and if you can't handle that then you probably shouldn't be an artist. (On the flip side of this, if you can't take criticism then you have no business dissing other people's art.) These people are like if comedians went around saying people shouldn't make jokes about them and claimed hecklers at clubs were harassment.

It's not about "defending" poor oppressed artists from mean words on the internet, it's a bunch of narcissistic twats defending their over inflated egos.

Art is subjective. When you put your art in a public place- be it online or in person- you're inviting people to share their opinions on it.

Criticizing the artwork is not a personal attack on the artist, especially since there are so few objective truths in art (depending on the medium and genre). Almost none of the people whose art we post here have threads; bad art and/or stupid headcanons does not instantly make someone a cow or a deviant. You can be a shitty artist and a decent- or at the very least a boring- person. There are artists with threads on the Farms who are actually very competent artists; it's their idiotic, depraved, and entertaining behavior that earned them a thread.

Critique is one of the most important avenues by which artists improve. If your art of Japanese people makes them look grotesque despite your intention being to portray realistically and favorably, that's a problem that warrants being pointed out. I'd even go so far as to say that Tumblr's enabling of shitty art habits also warrants being examined.

Most people, even the ones here, aren't saying "lul this art sux kill yourself", they're saying that it looks awkward and borders on being a racist caricature, which conflicts heavily with the artist's intent and devalues not just the piece but the point she was making with it.

Edit: Also, just to hammer home my point about the girl whose art that tweet was defending:

The way features are drawn between these two pieces is uncomfortably similar.
