It's been a while and I only watch the Little Women movie form 1949. I don't remember Jo being a smug ass little shit. Best way to get readers to like a character is to make them condescending. Not.

Honestly when Jo is fair competition for beating Amy at being the most annoying character, you messed up. I hope Jo doesn't get the typical genderqueer female hairdo (the one Lidsey from Queer Kid Stuff has) when they get to the scene were she sells her hair to support her family.

Jo was snarky in the original, but I don’t remember her being a rude bitch without any reason. Ie, She and Amy squabbled like any siblings with different personalities, but she never was snarky to Meg and Beth. And here she’s a bitch about Meg’s behavior just because Meg was nice to someone else in a way that Jo didn’t approve of.

Ugh. Amy at least has two excuses: being 12 years old AND being supposed to be seen as a brat in-story. Jo doesn’t even have that, she’s older AND we’re supposed to side with her when she’s an annoying bitch.

If this does turn out to be foreshadowing for Jo to come out as trans/genderqueer/whatever it's going to drive home just how black and white SJW's view on gender really is.

Feel bad about those chicks who would normally just be tomboys until they see stuff like this passed around on social media and getting praised as representation and start feeling insecure about whether or not they're actually a girl because they pick a dude character in a video game.

Jo also wants a copy of "Middlesex" for Christmas. I just hope she doesn't become so major social justice type and her future writings aim towards that. Once a character goes social justice, like Randy from Home Improvement, their like ability goes down. (At least Mike Stivic knew how to have fun and had a silly sense of humor.)

I agree with you, this message that's being pushed that if you're not a totally girly-girly, you're probably trans or some dumb, confining label is harmful.

It honestly looks like the author is projecting onto Jo.
Just read this article. I was right.

Trying not to judge too early but it looks like a bad/mediocre fanfiction in the work, with Jo being the self insert.
