Now Tumblrinas have an excuse to eat ice cream all day

pretty discouraging to know that despite all my efforts to improve, the things that are considered "art" nowadays couldve been achieved by 12 y/o me attempting realism with crayola markers

Wait for the karma, those tumblrinas will try to attend art school and get refused because profesionnals know the difference between shit and art.

Sometime last year I made a post here about a "friend of mine" (who was actually just me, not gonna lie), and how I had noticed my characters and style treaded into sjw territory. I feel like my art's improved, but i'm having a hard time deciding if it's still sjw or not, so here are my old drawings of these characters:

thought i'd give a rundown of what these characters are currently like. The one with the mohawk is a dead, now zombified guitarist for a band. he butts heads with the singer a lot and tries to push his punk influence into the forefront. Also, he's half Mexican, but resents it because of his bad relationship with his dad. He's also gay, but doesn't like when he's asked about it by fans or the media, since he himself doesn't see it as a big deal. He's a hopeless romantic, and clueless when it comes to social cues, and despite having a son, isn't mature enough to raise kids. However, he's not as outwardly aggressive as he looks, and can be pretty childish in his humor and media taste.

The ginger guy is a camera man on a public access tv show (which i won't get into, that's a whole story plot) who went to school for photography. at the start of the story, and at the start of his character arc, he's very unmotivated to work or take care of himself, and he's just generally hopeless. his arc kinda goes on in the background of the story, but he ends up getting therapy and becoming more social, and he learns how to better deal with his problems. the character is also trans, so that adds to his social discomfort. He does not wear a binder, since he's very asthmatic and a bit overweight, so he resorts to hiding his chest and figure with hoodies so he doesn't hurt himself and hinder his breathing. He eventually does fully transition, and he eventually finds a girlfriend, later wife, after starting to become more confident, and they adopt a child.

I won't go into any more detail, I think that's more than enough.

But yeah I feel like I might still be sjw-y so any criticism is greatly appreciated. I want to make sure when I graduate high school and really try to put myself out there that I've grown past my habit of shoehorning minorities into things unnecessarily. I'm sorry if this is a bit sperg-y and powerlevel-y

I would've thought that if you had made a post like this before, you would've learned your lesson that KF really ain't the place for stuff like this.

Dude, they're your own characters, do what you want with them. I don't understand what you're asking for. The existence of a gay, trans or non-white character doesn't mean it's "SJW" because those people do exist in the real world. It's when you make a character one of those things and make it so that's all there is to them, or do it clearly to be woke or for tumblr cred, that people might start to think your stuff belongs here. People aren't always going to agree whether certain stuff belongs here anyway.

A lot of people in this thread are also people who refuse to take criticism or practice and instead hide their flaws and bad form behind claims of “body positivity” and “wanting character who reflect the real world” despite it being obvious that none of them have ever even tried to practice any fundamentals like life drawing or anatomy in their entire lives.

If you’re actively trying to improve and aren’t just copying the popular style of the month, then the Tumblr art label probably doesn’t apply to you.

Looks like this should've been posted to the "Post Your Art" thread rather than here.

As long as your characters have depth, they don’t exist only for mindless diversity and you’re willing to take criticism, your art isn’t sjw-y :)

Because I was bored and had some time to spare, I decided to do an edit of some art that strolled its way onto my dashboard.

I'm gonna be out for a bit, while I'm gone it would be pretty nice if you replied with your two cents. Thank you, fellow kiwi farmers.
I have no idea why all the white on her was smoker teeth yellow but this looks a lot nicer.
(also Farmers redraw hideous tumblr art - You know you want to is here just so we don't clog this thread.)
