I absolutely agree with the ENTIRETY of this, like, the LGBT+ community should just be a space for gay/bi/lesbian/trans people to be a part of, not a entire political shitstorm.Big rant coming in but....
Ugh all this art is so aggravating cuz it's such a huge step backwards for the LGBT community?? Who do you think you are empowering? Gay folks? Don't make me laugh.
Literally took me till my twenties to accept I was not straight, which is hilarious considering I was one of those kids where everyone just knew, ever since I was small. Like I literally never had those dramatic 'MOM, DAD... I'M... IM NOT HETERO.' moments because people just were aware of it. But I just had an aversion of the community, because like many people, this was the image I had of the LGBT community. Because they are the loudest. The most obnoxious and the ones you bump into the first.
I did not want to be lumped together with these kinds of people and when I bring it up in conversations with LGBT friends of mine, a lot of them share this feeling and also struggled w/ coming out because of them. Tbh screaming 'trans/gay rights' on your ugly fanart or calling literally everyone who tries to just discuss your politics '*something*-phobic' does not empower trans or gay people. If anything it shuns them away. Please... just stop it.
Also them taking all these micro-identities and shoving it in their art just makes it so that people don't take the LGBT community serious anymore. I know these people unironically believe being 'gay' is cool. Like no. It should be a neutral thing. No one should be discriminated for being f.e. homosexual, but it doesn't make you hip either. By saying shit like: "Cis ppl are boring" or "I hate the cishets" you're just making the gap bigger. You may think many people agree with your politics, but that's because many of these 'activists' are so aggro about it that others just agree because they don't want to be attacked or they can't be bothered to argue. Ngl, i love to discuss things with people, but I never attempt to argue with any of them, because they will just call you *whatever*-phobic, without even attempting to listen to your point, then they'll get clout for being hyperwoke and fighting 'the bigot'. Also they'll often throw with personal insults. Which is hilarious considering they're all about positivity uwu but as soon as someone's like: "Hmm I don't agree." they'll dig through your pictures and call u ugly, fat, whatever. Imo, debates are enriching af, but as soon as personal insults are being used, it is simply not a good discussion anymore.
You know what these politics caused?? Lesbians and gays being more wary around bisexuals, as some of them assume people claim to be 'bi' to be a cool gay. Yes. An identity that was literally part of the original acronym is suddenly shunned out as a direct result of these kinds of people. I mean, there was even this drama because they suddenly said bisexuals were transphobic because they 'bi' in bisexual implicates there only two genders?? Leave bi ppl tf alone??? They also harmed the image of trans people big time, because of the logic 'you can be trans w/o having dysphoria or trying to transition' has left ppl really confused w/ what it means to be trans. There are so many ppl nowadays that just assume someone says they're trans to be alternative or cool. Like??? It's awful to see how people literally have to defend themselves and their identity to show they're serious about it and not jumping on a bandwagon. They are not only making us look bad to outsiders, they're literally also fucking up the structure from within.
I also love, whenever I say this in LGBT spaces, these kind of people will call me a gatekeeper. It's hilarious. Like at this point they just treat the LGBT community as a fandom. Like bih this is not a discussion where we say you are not a real anime fan if you've only seen Naruto. This is about fcking sexual orientations. Like is it weird that I feel like being 'demi-sexual', someone who is only attracted to ppl they have a good connection with, aka most humans, should not be lumped together with being a lesbian? Is it weird that I, as a lesbian, do not like to have someone talk over my head on gay issues because they say they're lithsexual and therefore know as much on gay issues as I do? (also f.y.i. as far as I understood lithsexual is basically someone who has sex w/o a desire to reproduce. Again. The average human being. Everyone on birthcontrol. Buying condoms makes u LGBT now)
Being LGBT brings struggles with it. This is no fun party and there were many occasions where I just wished I was straight and these folks just encourage that feeling.
Call it 'internalized homophobia' if u want, I'm just tired and I want this to stop. Whether you're into men or women or both, is just a part of who you are, but it doesn't make you better or worse as a person and it should definitely not be political.
These people are making me feel ashamed of being bisexual and non-binary (and before you attack me because of the latter part, i actually had thoughts about it and didn’t identify as that because “oH lOoK aT mE i’M sO sPeCial!!”)
