It weirds me out when they modify the body of a character even when is not an attempt of redesign. Some tumblr people in the LoveLive fandom draw Nozomi (the character with the biggest boobs in that franchise) as fat. Makes me think of personal insecurities. of the fan artist I don't mind artist attemptin redesigns of characters, and i can see the case for some, but stuff like the one is the link... eh?



I'm not the biggest Guilty Gear fan, but is not the whole point of I-no that she is a evil hedonist slut that perpetually talks in double entendre? Most characters find her destestable in any case so is not exactly a role model, hell, I heard she was designed after a female japanese rock singer so I will guess the whole purpose is be the "purest"rock 'n roll inspired character. Rock in the sense of not giving a shit and have fun.

Why then change her design?

I remember going on Tumblr once in search of style/reference guides. I started drawing their way of laying out the face, realized the horror, and immediately stopped. If you learn to draw on Tumblr, you're learning the same annoying style that everyone else is. I still think it was Penny Arcade that popularized it, funny because Tumblr hates Penny Arcade.

Unless something is seriously wrong with you (like terminal alcoholism), your nose does not look like this.

Often, it's even worse than this, with the nose being bulbous or otherwise completely unbelievable anatomically.

Also noses usually have to look weird in other ways like they're broken or flat (see Cheshire's). BTW, is that Kill la Kill one supposed to be a joke or taken seriously?

You know, imo the line art here isn't too bad. And you know, I can even appreciate portraying leg/armpit hair on a lady. But what's up with those slit eyes? The biggest thing (to me at least) is the copious amounts of color/flush to these characters. It doesn't look natural, instead it makes them look unwashed and nasty - especially the top two because they're actively eating.

Good god, it's the perfect storm of all of Tumblr's art cliches. Overly feminine pastel colour scheme combined with 2edgy subversion of female expectations, all with a noodly, inconsistent style, out-of-nowhere racebending, and making the characters uglier "more realistic" while completely disregarding their actual designs.

There are so many goddamn people on Tumblr who draw like this, whether it was always their style or whether they're young, impressionable artists aping what's popular and it drives me nuts. It's just not pleasant to look at.
