It makes me think of those people that have red cheeks from high blood pressure or whatever causes it. It's an image of unhealthiness to me and repulses me whenever I see it.

As for the blush going onto the ears? When you're embarrassed af, you can feel your ears burning from the blood rush but I doubt that's what artists like her had in mind when colouring. If you're constantly blushing, you need to seek medical help.
