I always find it weird that Korea still does outsourced animation work, when they are a developed country that could easily create their own domestic animation market. We've already seen a few webtoons get adapted by Japanese studios, and since webtoons are popular and Koreans have the skills why not cash in?

Just one look at the artwork is all you need to know about this game... Or looking at the developer's information.

There's a lot of she/they and he/they in the lineup.

If these three are "the three hottest people I know", then I must have brain damage.

Why do some characters have full descriptions while others just have their ages, star signs, and pronouns?

There is only one light-skinned character in this entire game. Look on the bright side Lulu, at least you're not shamed for it unlike Keaton from ValiDate. Also, jesus, the proportions on Iskandar are awful. Clearly someone doesn't know how to draw muscles. I get it's hard, but c'mon, at least make it presentable.

At least the familiar designs are actually kind of cute, even if they look a little bit like My Little Pony characters...

What a diverse team of POC! Two pasty white women (Morgan might be a tranny, judging by that face), two black men, and an asian woman. Not sure about the last two since they didn't even bother sharing IRL photos of themselves, only a sketch. I'm assuming white or asian.

Most modern cartoons aren't even animated in-house. Apparently paying animators for their work locally is too expensive so instead they throw some peanuts over to Korea or some third-world country with a 'growing, but not quite as good' industry so those studios can gloat about having worked for Nickelodeon/CN/Disney.

You can blame people for the designs, but those still have to pass through higher ups to get approved. I don't know how some shows end up with such unappealing art styles, but for example, character designer for the latest Ben 10 cartoon wanted to go with an anime-esque style like all other incarnations, but executive meddling made them end up with that fugly style. You can still see the anime influence in the colors, though.

Outsourcing animation has been the norm for decades. The reason the first season of The Simpsons was so fucked up compared to the following seasons is because the Korean animators kind of just did whatever they wanted. The premiere episode was supposed to be "Some Enchanted Evening", the one with the criminal babysitter, but it was so horrific that they scrapped it and it ended up being the last episode of the first season. On the first season DVD there's commentary on the original animation and it's pretty lols to hear how much the original team hated it. IIRC one of them (I think James L. Brooks) walks out because he can't stand how bad it was.

I actually don't dislike the art for this one (aside from Iskandar who's plain weird), just get rid of the queer nonsense. It's also very distracting to read someone's bio where the description starts with he or she, and then becomes filled with they's. I can't imagine reading that in the game: I'd never know who the hell people are talking about.

Ngl for some reason I thought Dexter had green eyes, mainly because I was remembering fusion fall and thought at one point his eyes were green in a promo oncs? But It was mainly blue I think. I'd have to do some searching however to be sure.

Hell can we bring back fusion fall? We strayed so far from that stuff and went from anime to pingpong eyes.

Also you'll notice even with the leaps and bounds we have had in technology, a lot of new cartoons have WORSE quality than a lot of shows where the animators were still painting on cels. It's embarrassing. Animators overall have gone down in skill level... remember the Mary Poppins animated penguin debacle? 2D animators with skill still exist, obviously, but have become far more rare... they needed to rehire some of the greats just to manage the scene. It's actually sad.

The ugly "cal-arts sjw" style isn't some new, original, great thing. It's a shortcut to make animation easier. People require lower skill to pull it off and more shows are mass produced. With anime they usually sacrifice animation and frame rate(less art per second) for much more detail on the characters. Western cartoons sacrificed detail for more fluid animation overall. But recently with a lot of new western shows, there is no animation improvement at all.. and the characters are simplistic + ugly. No wonder people are running to anime.

I think Adventure Time had a certain charm to it's style, even though it wasn't particularly great looking it kind of suited the feel of the show. I think Hilda was probably the peak of what can be done with that kind of style, mainly due to the use of colors and framing, particularly in the first episodes and the giant always sticks in my mind just for the simple yet perfectly framed shots. However, most of the shows now just look terrible, are terrible, and are made by weirdos who just use cartoons to push agendas when they should have been stuck making webcomics.
And you can see audiences getting sick of it, even the younger crowd. I have never heard anyone, much less the target audience of younger people, tweens that is, talking about any of these shows past Star Vs and Steven Universe. They're all watching fuckin' anime nowadays, and anime has a lot of issues but at least there's something more than 'cal-arts face and LGBTQAP+'.
