It's actually not. Most linguists stick to the theory, that it came from the word 'слово'([slovo],word), and meant "people, who we can understand". Your theory most likely came from the modern greek, in which σκλάβος means 'slave', which came from a werb σκυλεύο, which means 'acquiring war trophies'. However it did not meant 'slave' in the Medieval Greek. Two words just happened to sound the same. I think even Dostoevskiy debated that theory in his monthly publication.
