They're not wrong. "Woke" politics fuck over the middle and working class, particularly the white middle and working class, but without them there can be no effective movements among the non-rich in majority white countries, so it all ends up fucking over the entire middle and working class. Lots of minorities support woke politics because it tells them what they want to hear, but the only minorities it really helps are the small handful who are connected enough with the elites to become race and sexuality grifters themselves. None of the bajillion dollars major media outlets and corporations pump into spewing out Black Lives Matter propaganda across the nation help poor blacks in the ghetto in any material way.
Ironically, it's quite similar to the divide and conquer method that white South Africans attempted to employ during Apartheid, where they tried to pit the interests of Indians, mixed race coloreds, and all the various different tribes against each other to keep control. But leftist identity politics have always been an attempt to take people's natural tribal impulses that push them in a direction we'd normally call right wing, and repurpose them into pushing towards a left wing agenda, so it's not surprising there are parallels, or that these repurposed identity politics have been repurposed again by oligarchs.
Now the question is, does Jacobin Mag have enough intellectual honesty to admit that the election of Trump was largely a rebellion against this minority identity politics oppression and economic fuckery, and that while far from perfect he was actually doing a better job helping the working and middle class than either party had been before him, until Corona Chan? Or will they maintain that he's a fascist, racist, sexist, homophobic Nazi, using the exact same talking points they're condemning in this article?
