Skull and Bones - "After ten thousand years in development, I hope it was worth the wait"

Who here is buying Skull and Bones even knowing it will be trash?
Why buy it when you can wait and claim it for free? This game will probably go free to play in less than a year. Nearly everything in my Ubisoft library is from giveaways. I think the handful of Ubisoft games I did pay for were purchased through Steam which forced me to activate them through UPlay to run.

On the subject of buying the game I see that the release date has been set and stores are selling preorders. The Premium Edition is out on February 13 and the Standard Edition is out on February 16. It looks like most retail stores only sell it for Xbox and Playstation. The PC version can be purchased in the Ubisoft Connect client, and is $10 cheaper than the console versions - $60 & $90 vs $70 & 100.

I played the beta test through the tutorial and started the first mission.

I'm so underwhelmed I'm not sure if it's worth another hour or two to get further in.

I played it last month and did the same. I finished the tutorial and uninstalled it the second I arrived at the island with the shops and all that crafting shit. There's nothing fun in the game, it's all chores.

I just wanted, at this point, World of Warships with sailing ships. Like, at worst just copy the Black Flag logic of ship types and what kinds of weapons they carry (ramming brigantines, mining schooners, mortar somethings, etc.) They couldn't even deliver that.

I got you covered. Granted, it is a bit grindy if you do not spend any real money but I got through just fine. There is also zero FP action and PvP is basically dead unless you have online friends who play the same game.

The game has been cracked and there are reliable modded apks out there (which I used).

Why spend money on a half finished Triple A piece of trash when you can play this hidden gem?

So they fixed that thing I complained about before: you can now have more than just one rare tier weapon. The network is worse than it was before, though, and the game is just as sluggish and a slog as ever. Stamina bar is still there. It's busy work is all I can really call it and while you get a buzz from accomplishing stuff, I can't really say it's fun.

ironically I gotta admit I did experience the forbidden f-word, but I'm also one of the few people who like the ubisoft open-world formula (in moderation). fwiw there was also plenty of crap in there.

made some mental notes when playing it, gonna go into details later or the next days.

Quadruple A? $70 price tag? How much money did they dump into this? Is Suicide Squad going to be facing competition for Bomb of the Year?
the very first minute you get hit with the names of like 10 different ubisoft studios, and while most of them are probably third-world sweatshops given their location, the whole number alone is concerning.

it also starts right away with MUH CAPITALISM :story:

I'm not surprised by the slightest that the game's message for its opening act is giving its core audiences bad ideas

That's fine, I might judge a little, but I can see how one can have fun here. It's just that the only thing I can attribute as a positive feeling is just watching numbers go up or accomplishing a task. The thing is these are fun in other games, but here my high felt more like when I get something done at work.

I usually like these kinds of games, too, like Elite Dangerous or similar where you're just being a retard in a vast open space. For some reason, though, my brain is just treating this as work more than a game and if they implement battlepasses that aren't permanent then it really will become a job. One that eventually my contract will run out and not be renewed because it's a live service.

Skull and Bones costs $70, or your local equivalent, and that's a hefty price tag for something that bears the trappings of a live-service game, including an in-game store, battle pass, seasonal events, and premium currency. But Ubisoft CEO Yves Guillemot defended the cost in an investors call today, saying the high price is warranted because it's a "quadruple-A game."

It's like his definition of how many A's a game is relies on how many ways they can bilk their playerbase for money.

Oh, and it's not on Steam, of course. It's a Ubisoft game, so of course it runs through Ubisoft Connect, a service that just last year, came under scrutiny after they sent out emails saying they were going to delete people's accounts if they didn't use them after a few months. Seventy bucks just for the entry fee on the most untrustworhy PC gaming platform, for an open world live service game, from a company known for making increasingly soulless open world live service games. I am certain they will lose a lot of money on this.

I just came across someone in one of those legend quest lines (the purple ones that are based on rumors or hearsay) where, when if you ask if she was at an event, she talks about how a rich family got what they deserved because they bought up all the land and acted like it was their personal kingdom. How only the truly desperate stayed and worked for them and blah blah blah. Bitch, all I asked was "were you there or not?" I don't care about your fucking life story or how you sleep at night. A simple yes or no would have sufficed.
