Skull and Bones - "After ten thousand years in development, I hope it was worth the wait"

I just came across someone in one of those legend quest lines (the purple ones that are based on rumors or hearsay) where, when if you ask if she was at an event, she talks about how a rich family got what they deserved because they bought up all the land and acted like it was their personal kingdom. How only the truly desperate stayed and worked for them and blah blah blah. Bitch, all I asked was "were you there or not?" I don't care about your fucking life story or how you sleep at night. A simple yes or no would have sufficed.
yeah, the writing is part of what makes the game worse. this is the first fucking thing you see:

protip: piracy is STILL capitalism, just he ancap kind. gg retards

That's fine, I might judge a little, but I can see how one can have fun here. It's just that the only thing I can attribute as a positive feeling is just watching numbers go up or accomplishing a task. The thing is these are fun in other games, but here my high felt more like when I get something done at work.

I usually like these kinds of games, too, like Elite Dangerous or similar where you're just being a retard in a vast open space. For some reason, though, my brain is just treating this as work more than a game and if they implement battlepasses that aren't permanent then it really will become a job. One that eventually my contract will run out and not be renewed because it's a live service.
like I said I like the formula, there's something oddly comfy about running around in their games, just turn your brain off, explore some shit, see numbers go higher (ymmv ofc).

however other games copied it successfully by now, so I don't even need ubislop anymore. not many pirate or sailing-games around, so maybe it could score via setting, production values etc.? it certainly can, but then get dragged down by ubisoft being retarded as usual: $99 pricetag for the complete game. online only (even a slight hiccup will dump you in the menu). a live-service game that gets trooned out to appear as a standalone title, meaning if you don't buy it NOW (fuck your FOMO), it will be dead down the line. why not make it cheaper or even free, then trickle more content over time like a real live-service game? oh and there's always the fuck you that buying the base game cheap gets you fleeced later on - the DLC will never be as cheap, while the gold edition gets whored out for even less to get more new players (I can literally buy all of breakpoint new for the same price the season pass alone costs, fuck you ubisoft). the smartest move is literally not to play and wait for the inevitable sale down the line - at which point hardly anyone will play it anymore...

ubisoft is literally it's own worst enemy. take the engine for example, it's as mustard as it gets, the amount of options and shit you can configure is pretty much unmatched (like it allows me to swap bumper/trigger so you can properly hold a dualshock. I can count the amount of games that support that by default on one hand). it looks good (not great) while still running mostly fine, no UE5 microstutter 20fps bullshit looking like a ps3 game. why not license that shit out if you're so desperate for money?
fuck even the gameplay is mostly fine, there are enough systems to give it depth (I don't mind the stamina system for example, without it you'd just set max speed everywhere and be done with it), and options to "build" your ship etc. however I suspect for now the game is carried a lot by the "collect everything and make number go higher". once that is over or whatever "endgame" is supposed to be, it will probably lose some luster (otoh I'm not one of those autists to expect to play a game for 1000+ hours, and certainly not an ubisoft open world game).

it's not even a "real" pirate game, there's always the thought at the back of my head they set it in east-africa so they can put in more browns. at least they're honest and walked the walk, not made everything brown without reason. fuck me it even has black on black violence (ofc they get exploited by evil whitey, which I must assume is implying to be the only reason they kill each other), but it's still not the carribean, the first thing people expect when they hear pirates.

all in all the saddest part is the missed potential. with proper direction and a non-pozzed and less retarded company, we could've gotten a banger of a game. how fucking hard would it be to rip the mechanics out of black flag, spice them up and make it it's own version of destiny? why does that shit take almost a decade with dozens of studios? if you're that clueless and inept to come up with something engaging, just buy the fucking rights for 7th and go all the fuck out, that setting is fucking ripe for what you'd need, and since it's not MUH HISTORICAL you could do all kinds of shit.
instead we get some infantile "capitalism bad" from woketards wage-slaving at a "AAAA" studio. peak fucking current year

just read the last paragraph in the drinkers voice for extra effect

I watched a three minute vid on this talking about how Capitalism didn't exist in this era and that it was Mercantilism which promoted monopolies run with the monarchy's or government's blessing. I know Ubisoft takes liberties with history now, but fuck me... could have at least tried a little here. Capitalism probably would have reduced piracy because everyone would have been on equal footing with trading, Mercantilism promotes one sided affairs.

He calls it communist propaganda, which with how some of these faggots talk in game I think they're trying to make it to be, but that one point regarding Capitalism stuck out to me.

I wonder if ubisoft is just dying and this is more blind desperation over greed. I can't recall a ubisoft game I played since might and magic, the first assassins creed, and beyond good and evil.

I wonder if they are nearing their end and just trying to be bought up in a merger.

"Capitalism bad, but thanks for buying our $70 AAAA game!"
I think there's mixed messaging at work here by Ubisoft.
that's just the usual libshit dual standard "FUCK CAPITALISM (posted from my iphone)" by shitty writers regurgitating what their college professors said.

imho ubisoft is too bloated for that, think I posted about that before. once they start trimming the fat and getting rid of lower-performing studios/IPs, you know shit is getting serious.

as for desperation, I think it's just the hard internal disconnect and thorough woke rot. it's not like ubisoft doesn't want to make games, and some devs are probably eager to actually produce good games, by they are so hampered by the incompetence, mismanagement and DIE shit it makes them less effective than your average government agency - and compared to the public sector, they won't just be propped up forever by tax money (although there's a reason ubisoft has a big presence in canada), which means inevitably they need to get their heads out of their asses or deserve to wither and die.

Yeah, I know. But it just feels even dumber here for some reason.

So Amazon has some reviews on the game and everyone is pretty much lambasting it being always online on consoles. Because you have to pay $70 for the game, then $9.99 a month to a third party to play it. Maybe this shit will wake up normies to the bullshit that is live service games, but I don't think this game was on anyone's radar really. The review numbers are absolutely abysmal at the moment with just four for each console platform, doesn't help that they're mostly 1 stars too.

You know what I love in current year? When games fail they don't just flop, they crash and burn in a spectacular way. Like, I was really looking forward to a well-produced pirate game and a Suicide Squad game by Rocksteady. But I'm not even disappointed that either game is terrible, because they're such glorious trashfires.

Not a chance, unfortunately. I mean, maybe a couple people will get fed up with it, but most will still sit there and pay with the justification of "lol, what r u, poor? that's how all online games work, dumbass."
(I saw a video about the upcoming game Nightingale (a survival crafting game) that is forced to be always-online, and those kinds of comments were there almost verbatim.)

I know it's silly to fixate on this because there's so much wrong with this shit but seriously why does the fucking wooden ship have a stamina bar?

Haven't bought this game, but I'm wondering why anyone would buy this instead of AC Black flag and Rogue? It seems they've only taken away features and made it prettier.

The freedom's cry DLC even has a Haitian protagonist, so Skull and Bones doesn't even win at DEI

There are two choices for AAA Western Game entities (plus western influenced ones like Squeenix): make good fucking games or DIE

No, no, see... that's bad. And pirates never do bad things like capture women and put them up for auction at wife sales or anything like that. That never happened. No, as a pirate you fight to stop slavery and shut down big corporations or have gay lovers and stuff like that. Ubisoft said so.

I seriously hate every piece of "lore" I come across, it's practically written by Sweet Baby. Every single pirate that does horrible things? Yeah, apparently they had a very valid reason to do so because they were traumatized by some rich person or something or they're getting back at The Man™. Can't think of a tragic backstory? Just give them a gay lover for no reason whatsoever, because that was totally common back then with a bunch of marauding murderous thugs taking to the seas. Never mind most pirates actually worked for those corporations as privateers and went after rival companies in real life. The absolute butchery of history is atrocious and the romanticism makes me nauseous. Everything after Surlock is complete trash, he's the closest thing to an actual pirate there is in the game, everyone else has some moral calling to "do better" from what I've seen. However, he's a white man... so you gotta play him up as incompetent every once in awhile.
