Same reason cults do it. A lot of it has to do with early usenet faggots making them up to help secure their position as head of dorky usenet groups dedicated to losing your virginity. Sorry this response is so late, but dear god you are the worst excuse for a psych major I've ever come across. How can you live with yourself when you are actively encouraging BDD in people you call your friends? You know exactly the kind of damage you're doing and yet you don't even seem to care! You know just as well as I do that they are in more need of cognitive behavioral therapy than they are of major surgery to fix their problems yet you encourage their issues. Seriously go and retake your ethics course,scum
