Here's what I'll say about Glitch Productions: if you think you're "outgrowing them" you probably are. It's definitely made for the "dumb 12-year-olds who don't know what AdBlock is". That is to say, young people with little discernment and little interest in other things. That doesn't mean the earlier episodes weren't somewhat competent and better paced, as well as regularly showing original jokes as well and being more irreverent and creative with the source material. And that doesn't excuse later episodes for bloating up the cast with cliche archetypes (because original characters can legally have merch made out of them) including not one but TWO self-insert characters (both the re-colored blue Mario and Tari) and for re-using jokes as well as having characters yell, fly around, and catch fire in nearly every scene to the point where you aren't laughing anymore. Glitch Productions is just another Big Thing that is going to Fall Hard and be replaced by some other phenomenon or trend, and it's not necessarily a great loss when it does.

Lastly, the current staff of Glitch Productions worries me as it is. Quite a few of the (unoriginal) characters are from shows that the Hobo Bros are way too old for. And their parodies that frequently steal from pre-existing properties wholesale (without expies even) are probably making them more money than most real animators in the East and West.

I’ve been watching SMG4 since my university days, and I actually thank him for introducing me to vintage Nintendo games, as well as forgetting that he used to love Newgrounds humor when he was younger.

Still, his occasional GMod animation and voice acting now being present in new characters is starting to show a lot more, and it reminds me of those ”short Fortnite films” that used to get plastered all over YouTube at one point.

Also, he just hit five million subscribers:


His stream crashed once so he had to do a redo of it for over six hours.

I’ve been watching SMG4 since my university days, and I actually thank him for introducing me to vintage Nintendo games, as well as forgetting that he used to love Newgrounds humor when he was younger.

Still, his occasional GMod animation and voice acting now being present in new characters is starting to show a lot more, and it reminds me of those ”short Fortnite films” that used to get plastered all over YouTube at one point.

Also, he just hit five million subscribers:

You're right, even if his current videos aren't that good, I still wish him and Kevin the best in terms of careers.

As for James and Jasmine though.... Not so much

I miss the days when SMG4 made edgy jokes and used really old memes from the early days of internet. It hurts to see the series become yet another youtube show that panders to trends that'll rake in views from kids, but I suppose in today's day and age it is inevitable.

At least we still have MJacobBarker - who posts videos infrequently but is incredibly skilled at making high quality funny Mario videos.

Not so much mainline SMG4, but Kovach IS in their other series-Murder Drones (he was in SMG4 as Niles but as of the end of the Revelations arc he is dead). Elise is in Murder Drones too, however she is in the main series (albeit rarely) as Saiko.

It may be too optimistic but I've theorized that Kevin is the extremely pozzed one and Luke is just a weak beta going along with everything. It's kind of weird but when you see how they are together Kevin always seems to be the dominate brother and seems to run things more than Luke does. It's sad because this was Luke's creation but I guess once a pushed around younger brother always a pushed around younger brother.

I can definitely agree with you on that, from the way i see it, it almost feels like a Cinemassacre situation, where Luke is forced into a smaller position while other people (Kevin, James, Jasmine, Etc.) control most of the Writing, Editing and Voice Acting for the videos, just like how the Screenwave guys do most of the same for the newer AVGN videos, with James only involvement is starring in the videos as The Nerd.

But thankfully Glitch Productions as a whole hasn't been involved in any controversy yet, unlike Screenwave. Plus, Luke still writes episodes with Kevin, and his other shows like Meta Runner, Murder Drones and Sunset Paradise are pretty decent little projects.

So if Luke is happy how everything is going currently, then hopefully things will turn out a lot better in the future.

It is time for me to don the top hat and get angry. I fucking hate the redesigns and I'm not going to sugarcoat it. They suck and whoever modelled Boopkins in particular should feel nothing but shame. I'm calling it now - Swagmaster and Chris are next in line to get pozzed by marketable designs. They're the only good characters left.

As a side note Karen isn't even original. She's just Tasque Manager from Deltarune.

SMG4's fanbase was always full of autists and cancer (which is thanks to it being a more competent part of the Mario recolor fandom) but it's probably never been worse than it is now. I have never seen so many dumb, juvenile kids and manbabies converge together. There are genuine retards who think that Glitch changed the designs so Nintendo wouldn't sue their ass when they already had merch lined up for SMG4's new model. There are autists who think that people who don't like SMG4 are as bad as Trump or aren't "cool memers" and now more people are coming out and saying that they don't like where the series is going they get crucified by 10 year olds who probably think the triangle mouth Mario face is the funniest thing ever.

It hurts to see something that was really dumb and shitposty but had a lot of charm become this hollow, corporate shell. Fuck Kevin, fuck the fanbase, fuck the new characters, fuck the redesigns, fuck the arcs and especially fuck the waifu characters.

I stopped regularly watching SMG4 a few years ago and “corporate” is definitely the best way to describe it now. It’s not a matter of growing out of it because I found out about his channel as an adult anyway and I can still enjoy his videos from around 5+ years ago; it just feels like the newer videos are cashing in on whatever’s currently popular and marketable more so than whatever Luke is currently interested in, which is what used to define the channel.

I get it, and I’m glad a child/teenage shitposter can now make a living off doing what he loves, but I’ll remember SMG4 for what it was rather than what it became.
