Rewatched it, the whole episode was about Shrimp getting back with his girlfriend. Pim went to 153, Shrimp's girlfriend was at 158. They SAID 153. The sign said 153. Am I missing something?
In the episode, Shrimp says that Shrimpina works at 153 Meep Blvd. At the end of the episode, Pim says "I went where Shrimp told me to go, the cafe on 153 Meep Blvd" and Charlie says "Pim there's no cafe on 153, there's a cafe on 158. You went to the wrong place." This means that Shrimpina was at 153 but Pim went to 158 by mistake. When Pim visits the cafe and we see the number it is blurry/faded so that it looks like 153, but the ending implies that it actually said 158.

But they SAID 153.
And the cafe is at 158

Back in the early 2000's it was common to text a service who would sent a viral video/ringtone to your phone. Like Crazy Frog or shitty meme edits like SEXBox(get it? Like the gaming console!) Said service would then take 2 dollars from your phone credit, either every month, week or in some cases days.
They also had some stupid fucking ads. Check Gummy Bear for example.
For sure there's an element of that, with the phone stuff, but it's more about the trend of adding an extra character to shows with established dynamics out of fear that it's getting stale. You know, Scrappy Doo and all that.
Similar to the "Pinky and the Brain, and Larry" joke (where they're joined by a third character that fucks up the dynamic; which ironically would happen for real later on, with Pinky and the Brain and Elmyra), or the Simpson's meme about Graggle.

Smiling Friends also has a running joke about a fifth Smiling Friend, with Smormu, Blue Janitor Guy (an actual fifth character who got cut), Jambo, and Tyler,

I find it easy to believe that the production budget for network television is highly bloated considering that a Youtube Channel that started off making Super Mario parodies managed to create an animation studio, and one of the most talked about animation nowadays is independently produced from the internet.
I don't see how it relates to Smiling Friends, as far as I know they don't have any celebrity voices except for like Gilbert Gottfried on the show, most of the cameos are Newgrounds friends and RLM who definitely are not taking bloated celeb prices for their roles. Zach himself has also spoken with scorn about the amount of people paid to stand around and do nothing when he wants things to go chop chop. He said that on one of the Creative Unknown podcasts if I recall, and it sounded like he was talking about specific areas of production of the show but in a way as to not call anybody out.

He is using them as a comparison to every other animated show and why they have massive costs despite looking like shit 90% of the time compared to Smiling friends which has a relatively low budget and looks amazing.

The Network bloat from hiring so many do-nothings who suck up budget and make the products worse is a terminal problem in every show, but especially animation which requires so much genuine talent and corrections being far more costly.

I think another portion of the budget bloat not mentioned has to do with broadcast rights and scheduling. With network television, you need to get a deal to get the air time and a season order, you are expected to have a deadline and release episodes on a regular schedule once it is aired. Sure getting the air time itself might not break the budget, but having a system to make sure everything go smoothly will add on to it. This isn't a factor in the more popular animated series on Youtube where you can have a massive gap in time between episodes and people can upload the next episode whenever they feel.

@Oilspill Battery is right tho, Scavenger's Wraith has lots of awards and no substance.

Fauna exists just to forward the plot and no actual thought is put into it.

It's fart huffing bullshit.

I feel I want to analyze the show, but I'd be missing the purpose.

I think Smiling Friends uses rotoscope animation for one character. That Halloween party with the guy smoking. That's trippy.

I was not expecting the waitress in Spamtopia to be creepy like that. Her animation and the way she was "running" towards the car at the end reminded me of the game Baldi's Basics. I wonder if they meant her as a reference to that at all.

Rotoscoping makes an appearance a handful of times. The other notable example is Doug, the brother of Dr. Psychotic. When they fight and hug, Dr. Psychotic also becomes rotoscoped.

How do you draw like that?

Also, that Christmas episode with God, his voice sounds familiar.

That bird from Cyberspace.
