I found S1 of Smiling Friends "just okay" but I'm actually fascinated by Alan in this preview. He feels more authentically weird versus Pim or Charlie who don't have a ton of nuance to them. Am I stupid?
my biggest gripe with season one versus the pilot was doubling down on alan as a straight man character, because that wall scene in the pilot was amazing. so now im glad theyve corrected and have moved alan back into his weirdness because to me a big draw is how he represents this overly-attached to his work autist who still has common sense

My gripe, (and honestly speaking here, realistically, it's a minor nitpick) is episode length. I feel like they can feel a bit short and the pace can be jarring a smidge when it comes to packing in everything. if they can make these episodes 15 minutes with/without credits and other stuff. I think that's the sweet spot. Now keep in mind, I'm content with the episode durations as is. But if they made the change I think they could include just a bit more in a lot of these episodes.

Still liking Smiling Friends, I just wish that the people unironically trying to paint the show "actually you have to have a pretty high IQ to appreciate Rick and Morty"-style as secretly really subversive or deep would stop because it is so embarrassing, you can just like a show because its funny without trying to read deeper meanings into it.

That and those whose reactions to the President Jimble episode was essentially this are also sort of embarrassing.

Biden shit himself while he was at the Vatican but I can't remember Trump doing the same.
The Trump part is the guy becoming President despite him not being built for that type of responsibility.

The way he breaks character is so damn hilarious. Most of the characters breaking character is, honestly, one of my favorite parts of the show
I like the sound mixing in this show, like in that scene where the boss leaves the break room and continues to talk in the corridor and you hear his voice echoing.
I don't know how many people work on Smiling Friends but they seem to put a lot of sovl in it.

Not really sound mixing, but one detail that I love is when Charlie is cutting down the tree in the Christmas episodes and his sentences stutter and break as he puts effort into pulling the axe from the tree. Giving attention to shit like that goes a long way.

I don't think president Jimble was supposed to be Trump in anyway. It just seems like they made a silly incompetent president without any underlying leaning. One could argue that the whole shitting himself thing was a reference to the rumor that Biden shit himself at the Vatican in like 2021 or whenever it was (there was a picture of him away from all the other political gremlins... Far away. Then later on he went for that surgery. Jimble just seems like what would be expected of a lolcow in general.

Gwimbly episode was great, Jimble episode was decent. The underrated joke for me was Smiggly Wiggly speaking his non coherent made up language and the subtitles were, ".... I'm the only one talking sense here..." The Alan episode looks great already from all the previews.

Edit: A funny coincidence I've noticed again is that I felt that both the season 1 episode 2, Mr. Frog, and the season 2 episoode 2 were both decent compared to the rest. Not as gut busting, but enjoyable in the grand scheme of things. Also coincidently both episodes contain: Mr. Frog, and worms.

Yeah thinking about it, its clear Jimble is pretty much a CWC parody. There's so many traits similar to CWC more than anything, especially with how he rants about trolls and openly shits himself.

I really liked President Jimble not changing his suit. It felt like they didn't let the guy change between shots. Really gave him the extra gross touch.
I give the actor props for being able to stand around in a Sweet Baby Ray's soaked suit the whole time while being filmed. Unless the actor IRL is a slob, it really takes a lot of restraint to 'act' while you're covered in a nasty high fructose corn syrup laden excuse of a 'BBQ sauce'.
And I'm pretty sure the BBQ sauce used (eww, lamb with cheap-ass BBQ sauce?) is a bottle of Sweet Baby Ray's with the label peeled off. A true Replicant favorite.

I find it amusing how the show fanbase is doing a new version of "IS THAT A JOJO REFERENCE?" but with Oneyplays.
WOW THE CHARACTER USED THAT LINE IN THE NEWEST EPISODE FUCKING EPIC!

I mean if I was writing a comedy I would use things that made me and my friends laugh.
