I liked the episode. I had a little trouble following it because I got distracted every time Silly Samuel was on screen! He's so silly :)

I think Smiling Friends has a lot more staying power. It knows what it wants to be and does it well. But like all comedy shows, it will either get cancelled while it's still good, or will slowly decline like Simpsons or South Park. I think it's got a few more seasons, though, before the entropy starts setting in.
As it is now its difficult for it to be annoying since its just 10 minute episodes that are self contained. If they land a a couple funny gags in that time frame then its done its job. As long as they keep a simple premise they have a lot of malleability. If they start doing multi episode story arcs with stablished lore or annoying gimmicks like full season gags like south park does it will probably get stale sooner.

He lived a full life and got to have a fun, wacky adventure for his last day. He wouldn't want us to be sad he's gone, be happy he lived.

He lived an amazing life... whether you agreed or not, he lived an amazing life.

Is eating the silly sausage gay an or cannibalism?

No one cares about Rick and Morty these days aside from the handful of diehards who still watch it (so, its basically like The Simpsons). The 2017 high IQ copy pasta and that Asian guy chimping out in McDonalds basically killed off the entire mainstream appeal of that show.
Rick and morty still has good episodes and can release good episodes when they actually try, its not that the entire show is shit, they've always had dud episodes, the issue is the ratio of duds to actually good ones has been heavily skewed.

In the first seasons you had 8 good episodes for every 2 duds, right now you have 8 duds for every 2 good ones.

One of the main issues is that the writers decided anyone who actually cares about the story is a lame nerd so they dedicate like 1-2 episodes per season just shitting on people who like the lore to punish them for not being nihilist enough.

Essentially if you watch rick and morty because you like sci fi space operas, the writers hate you and will dedicate entire episodes every season to remind you of that fact.

This is literally everything that woke assholes do. The only joy to be had is when the woke are treated like absolute shit.

I always felt it was kinda dumb to expect serious lore or continuity in Rick and Morty in of itself, but it's also a parody of pop sci-fi, which is riddled with actual lore, so I can totally get people wanting to see something that stuck between episodes.

Hellbenders has actually aged really poorly without the context of being so of-it's-time, it's a good thing they didn't find major success and get frozen in time in that style.
"aged poorly"
What by having a "we're not racist" joke where buff black men start clapping?

Thing is the issue is kinda the opposite of what the post you're replying to frames it like fromw hat I remember... Like last I checked, they keept adding in super 2deep4u shit since harmon took full control (and incest/fetish content but that's another story) and mocking people who just wanted funny space adventures, and then retconned the fake deep backstory rick came up with int he brain simulation machine in season 3's start into something that actually happened which ruins the whole gag and then they have like some lame edgier rick that's the "real" rickest rick or some dumb shit like that that was the one that killed everyone and I'm just sitting there with this knowledge and the thing where they threw roiland under the bus during that lawsuit and I'm just like "why the fuck are you even doing this man what the hell are you even doing anymore?"

They literally dedicated multiple episodes into making fun of people who want an actual story by turning it all into shitty gags. Never Ricking Morty/Story Train, Full Meta Jarick, The one with james gunn and zack snyder are literally a "fuck you" to anyone who expects anything other than family guy gags from the show and they are stuffed to the gills with jabs aimed at people who like the lore.

The space rift that was looming in the background as an actual serialized story payoff was sealed as literally a side gag by the villain of the week and rick joked about milking it for lore, while rick prime just randomly dies midseason resolving that plot thread unceremoniously.

The show is about as biased in favour of people who like deep lore as family guy is because it has literally degenerated into sci fi family guy.

What like... stylistically?

The jokes seem pretty timeless to me, it's not very topical.

If they ever do an angry game reviewer episode it should be about an obvious AVGN analogue doing nothing while his smarter friend writes every joke
I think an analogue about the AVGN stand-in giving up on his dreams and being miserable and disconnected despite being famous and successful would be more fitting than just a HAHA BIMMY commentary kind of deal.

Getting "James" to smile by showing him how much he actually has and re-igniting his passion for his work or maybe re-connecting with the scorned friends that got him into the character in the first place would make for a good episode and match the optimistic vibe.
