Regular reminder that Dan harmon is a lolcow and serial self sabotager who torpedoed at least 2 other shows before Rick and Morty and season 3 onward had a huge overhaul of its writers. Rick and morty going from extreme heights to extreme lows wasn't something that just happened out of nowhere, it was a perfect storm of incompetent checked out showrunners and replacing good veteran writers with completely horrible rookies with egos the size of planets.
You don't just "pull a rick and morty" because you reach some arbitrary length and have cringey fans on reddit. news flash, every show in existence has embarrassing fans on reddit, it's fucking reddit.
I don't believe anything made by Zach and Mike could end up like Rick and Morty but being, "the next Rick and Morty" is just going to be the insult lobbed at anything popular on AS that starts going downhill and has annoying fans from now on.

Also, I think Rick and Morty was really just okay at it's peak. It's was always literally just every other animated Family Sitcom but unlike The Simpsons or Family Guy who ended up actually being controversial for their time and having valid cultural critiques, Rick and Morty was like one of the earliest examples of safe-edginess and all it had to say was, "Nothing matters but be nice to your family, I guess. I am very deep."
What I'm trying to say is the writing sucked and Daryl is still the funniest thing Dan Harmon ever made.

For the Smiling Friends Movie, God willing they make one, I'm thinking that Pim gets really fucking depressed and everyone has to cheer him up. Like Pim is just, a complete fucking nihilist, maybe even worse than Desmond was. And Charlie doesn't really care at first and it's just the rest of the Smiling Friends as well as everyone Pim has helped trying to get him to lighten up, like Mr. Frog, Gwimbley, and Mole Penis guy and then Charlie finally realizes that Pim made his life better by being a counterweight and then Pim is finally cheered up.

Rick and morty had the same appeal star trek, doctor who and futurama had. It was a sci fi exploration variety show. Bit of comedy, bit of drama, with different episodes exploring different sci fi concepts and/or alien worlds. The sitcom part helped, but it wasn't the entire appeal it had.

Star trek, doctor who and futurama have all become completely unwatchable, rick and morty still manages to shit out 2-3 decent episodes per season. If you want sci fi variety/exploration there's nowhere else to go.

Michael Cusack and Zach have confirmed that Season 3 was the last season of Smiling Friends, but they don't deny that there will be more special episodes in the future.

This is the premature end of an amazing era of Adult Swim, but my god, they ended in a pretty high note.

Probably a good thing they ended while they did, the woke troon fanbase was starting to multiply. I guess Zach and Michael can't come out and say "We don't want troons to watch our show" without nuking their future opportunities so this is the way they'll cut and run.

Anyone else feel like the hype for this show is somewhat artificial. I've watched every episode and I really don't think it's actually that funny and I say that as someone who was a fan of zach and cusack before and found the pilot episode to be pretty good, I watched their little pseudo podcast where they're just drawing and coming up with stupid ideas for shows so overall I was pretty hype for the first season but I genuinely find most of the episodes to be very bland with jokes that rarely hit and it's shocking to me to see so many people sing praises for the show. It feels like it's a show people think they have to say is good because dude it's internet people whose made it, ya gotta like it! or they actually laugh when they see a reference to an internet thing or whatever.

For my own sanity I just wonder if anyone else feels the same way.

I wonder if it has to do with that third guy being tagged in as a creator in the middle of season 3, or if Marc M wanted to drop and they didn’t want to try and replace him, which is a good call IMO. It could just be that that they just got antsy with the premise and wanted to make something new, though. Cringe fan culture doesn’t help. I think a movie in the future could be fun, if they let it sit for a while. I have faith in both the creators, both very funny and and creative, I’m sure they’ll make more kino for me to eat up. You can see Cusack posting his own stuff recently, which lends credence to the idea that Smiling Friends was beginning to feel stuffy to him.

Im glad we got the 3rd season and the "do you realize" Christory moment, im thankfull for all the fun i got myself and after introducing SF to my friends, I'd love to see more, but im happy with what we got so far, Godspeed to both Zach and Michel

This is also a common trend with Cusack.
YOLO also ended after three seasons.

I think its for the best they end it, we have so many shows that continue to drag on for nearly decades like the Simpsons and Family Guy that the people behind a show deciding its best to throw the towel in is seen as shocking.
I will miss Smiling Friends though.

I kinda wish they somehow got dear feeder on as a short voice cameo. But his vocal fry is very recognizable and scary
