Zach and Michael knew they peaked with that joke, and knew that it would result in endless arguments about what it really meant, so they ended the show because they had nothing left to prove.
And it's such an obvious joke, too, like they literally explained it in the show. The idea is to see what each individual person thinks of, that's literally it.

It's really like a captcha for politically brainrotted "people", if someone argues that it's actually referring to (insert muh jew/muh christians here) you can disregard every opinion they have.

It's not even the first time they made that joke. In the season 1 commentary they say how what Mr Frog really says that gets censored is whatever you think the worst thing he could have said in that moment.

it's funny because pointing it out only made the joke more obscure to everyone who misinterprets it. it's not a serious statement from either side, it's just making fun of guys who are weirdly vague about their prejudices that try to play it off as a joke when they're called out. it's not a "THE JEWS" or "THE BLACKS" joke like so many people think, and in saying that it's about a specific group of people, they end up directly falling for the bit that is being called out! this is some dickwolves shit but somehow funnier

The real secret sauce of that joke is it can equally be interpreted like a dozen different ways, and they made no attempt to clarify what it meant. Its like the joke equivalent of that vase / 2 faces illusion. Infact you even saying "its making fun of vague posters who excuse stuff as jokes" is interpretation which is again, part of the thought experiment. And a CERTAIN GROUP OF PEOPLE, don't like such vague and hard to pin down statements.... you know who I'm talking about.

Eh maybe, Zach owns WWII Nazi shit he used to wave around an SS dagger on podcasts. The joke is vague yes but I seriously doubt the intent was to make fun of Chuds.

A CERTAIN GROUP OF PEOPLE keep analyzing this joke and coming to a conclusion equivalent to, “but I did have breakfast this morning.”

(You know who I’m talking about.)

I hope Zach and Michael go back to the boys at The Create Unknown and talk for 3-4 hours about the show. Not exactly a post mortem examination or elaborating on why the show has ended. Just talking about what they were particularly proud of and what had to be cut for time.

The more the dust starts to settle, the more I somewhat start to see why Michael and Zach did what they did...

Since like last year there's been a weird trend of people accusing the show of being misogynistic for not having a main female character.

I checked this weirdo's socials and yup he's a tranny, a man getting upset that there are no girls he can self-insert himself into the show with.

When he's referring to "the smiling friends OC", he's talking about Dolly Dimpley. Dolly Dimpley, a joke parody character intended to be as annoying as fucking possible is the one thing this troon can mentally interface with.

Troons like this literally cannot comprehend people simply liking things made by people that they have weird personal grudges against:

He doesn't even watch the show!

The fact that people don't constantly keep a compendium of random internet beefs in their heads doesn't compute to this freak.

Michael Cusack literally made a female-led show years ago, in the same off-beat style he's famous for, but that didn't take off since it wasn't as "marketable" as Smiling Friends.

But because Smiling Friends is popular, all of a sudden, these idiots have the right to demand shit be changed to fit their tastes.

Troons really do ruin everything they fucking touch. Goddamnit.
