So, I play this MOBA called Smite, and I am really tired of being paired with three tunnel-visioning idiots a match, and I was wondering if any of you might play this game also.

For the uninitiated, Smite is a multiplayer online battle arena in the same vein as DOTA, League of Legends, and all that jazz. What sets Smite apart is that it is in third person. Some say it is slower, others think it is faster paced that LoL or DOTA. Personally, I like the pacing of the action. It is a wonderfully frustrating game.

Old gameplay trailer, but it serves its purpose. One thing: they took out a lot of the cool maps they used to have.

It is updated regularly, but it is not without its matchmaking and minor balance issues, because of their ever-increasing roster. I know they have over 50 playable characters now, all gods from several different pantheons. The mythology buff in me adores this game. It heavily reminds me of World of Warcraft, but real-time, as everything is a skill shot in the game. Stylistically, it reminds me of WoW as well, a lot of bright colors.

I only found Arena fun when I played Smite. Have they done any work with it recently?

I do mostly assault, though now I'll probably work on getting my mastered gods higher up.
My higest is level 4 Apollo. Thing is I never play too much anymore, once a week at best.
Me and my buddy ran a pretty good Thor/Apollo lane. Thor's cc and pokes makes him a slightly possible support, and it works when your literally sitting next to your lane partner. But the little bitches gotta cry "THOR'S A JUNGLER WAHHHH THIS ISNT META REPORT"
He doesn't play to much anymore so I stick with mid or support because that's what I do in league.

I only ever play assaults, I like the randomness. They need to hurry up and make a Oceania server though, the lowest ping I've ever gotten is 220, usually I'm on 280. It's mostly playable but it's bloody annoying.

Oi sorry for the necropost but I still play this game.

The newest update re-released Ao Kuang. He has a pretty neat new model.

They replaced the old Ao Kuang with Kukulkan. The new Ao is a melee mage with stealth capabilities. His ultimate is a pretty cool conditional execute where he reveals his dragon form and deals out some hurt to an area.

Kind of confuzzled that they'd have separate Roman and Greek pantheons, seeing as they were the same bunch of people under different names.

They really aren't. The Romans decended from the Latins who lived in the Italian peninsula. They share a lot of things with the Greek, for sure, including many of the Greek pantheon, as well as a massive influence of Greek culture overall. The Greeks also predate the Romans by centuries. Rome just lasted longer in the end, but the Greeks were very good trade partners with the people of the Italian peninsula.

They've so many deities to work from that I don't think they would ever need to make the same god with a different name for both pantheons. The most recent roman God, Sylvanus, for example, was one I never heard of. Janus as well, was the one before. Janus is the god of portals and transitions. Janus is an example of a uniquely Roman god, and our first month is named in his honor.

It's more that the Romans identified a lot of the Greek Gods with their preexisting deities, much in the same way they did with the deities everywhere (unless they really did worship Mars in Gaul). As they did with a lot of peoples and places, the Romans absorbed a lot of Greek mythology but to say that the two pantheons are just Latin and Greek names of the same thing is missing a lot of the nuance.

It's basically like saying "Isn't God and Allah just the same guy?" You could make the argument, but it would be very broad and missing the point.

Hinduism is a pretty neat pantheon. It is a monster, but I like to think he is the god of vore. He eats people.

I have exams at the moment and little to no experience with smite, but id be willing to learn when the exams are done in a few weeks?

I used to play this quite a bit, Basically the only MOBA I can stomach without dryheaving.

If there are some more kiwis that are up for playing, I would like to get back into it.

I am going to dredge this thread from the hoary beyond.

Anyone else play it? If so, who are your gods of choice?

In keeping with tradition I am necroing this thread to ask if anyone here plays Smite

I play Smite and play more than just Arena. let's play! and don't feed!

I remembered hearing about SMITE doing a collaboration with Nickelodeon and added ATLA and TLOK skins to the game:

For those of you who played the game, how well-received were those skins? I also remembered that Hi-Rez even added a Doge Skadi (I think) skin, out of all things, and people really didn't like it.
