Important Note
I don't actively monitor IPs, but they are visible through my VPS provider's dashboard. If that concerns you, use the Steam relay option when connecting, just be aware it may result in higher latency.

It's been a while since I touched Zomboid. Never tried the multiplayer. I assume it's more focused on combat?
Might roll a medic or a gunman if I have enough time.
What about loot and other persistent stuff, is everything permanent or does the world reset from time to time? What happens if I log out and then log back in, does my character stay where I left it?

Gonna play at around 12 PST, thinking of setting up at Smokey's Bar in north Muldraugh and then building a wooden castle at the lake if we can find some axes.

They added a lot more long-term non-combat stuff like more crafting and raising animals, so you don't have to combat if you don't want to. I'm requesting Loot and Zombie Respawn to be off, I sent Billy my settings file so maybe he will use it. If you log out your character disappears, yes, and reappears when you log back in. You can claim a safe-house if admin enables it too so no one can fuck your house up.

Ah, a Project Zomboid server for the kiwis. It might finally make me try the new B42 for a longer period of time. Have you toned down the annoying mechanics like muscle fatigue, or just pretty much left the server vanilla in the apocalypse settings aswell?

I might hop when I get free time and maybe fortify some place in riverside, a outpost for people to come and go when they are visiting multiple areas.

I think I know where that is. The fenced neighborhood north of the lake is a good spot, too, the fences are long enough to filter and split hordes, making it pretty safe. Enough different routes away from the place, too. Those two-storey brick houses don't have too much good stuff in them apart from food and disassembleable electronics, but they're large and easily fortified.
When I played in single player, I just used stone axes for chopping wood, they were real simple to craft in bulk with a couple levels in foraging and a forest to forage in. Leveled up the maintenance skill, too. Might not be viable in MP though, rather slow.
If you log out your character disappears, yes, and reappears when you log back in.
So you can log into what used to be your safe space but is now a half-disassembled fully looted shitheap crawling with zombies? Or is there, like, a grace period upon logging in?
Long-term stuff is good if the players on the server are cooperating. I remember maxing Tailoring. Weeks upon weeks of looking for skill books and hoarding materials: shredding all the cloting I came across (including whatever the zombies had on), then using all those scraps and thread to cover a pair of jeans in patches, removing those patches, adding more patches, removing them again and so on. Took close to an in-game month in total even with all the Tailoring skill books. The clothing system does allow you to make something resembling a suit of zombie-proof armor in the end, though. Wish you could make metal scales with Metalworking to sew onto clothing or something. Have they added anything resembling smithing yet? A halberd or maybe a Medieval English-style billhook would make a lot of sense in a zombie apocalypse.
But who knows, maybe the server will devolve into a murderfest or get griefed. Considering I don't have too much time these days, it might be better for me to treat the character and their belongings as disposable.
Have you toned down the annoying mechanics like muscle fatigue
That was only a problem for me when I tried those long-form playthroughs where you start really weak and malnourished to min-max your perks. I thought of muscle fatigue as just a part of the combat system: your character is faster than the zombies and can kill them pretty easily even with low skills/stats if you know the game, but there are many, many ways activity and circumstances can wear you down, making you more vulnerable and less effective. That's when the horror part of the game sets in, actually: you learn the systems, but eventually get overconfident, overextend, collect too many small debuffs and then suddenly run headfirst into a horde or make too much noise at your base...

i got on for like 30 minutes and only found, like, a pen and a crowbar. and a car with keys and no gas.

There's a lot of quality of life things you forget about when playing modded, like crowbars being able to pry open doors with a strength check instead of having to destroy the door or disassemble it

I bought Zomboid yesterday but I don't know how to play and immediately died when I first tried playing. Can someone let me know what to do when I join so I don't get my ass whooped immediately
I can get on tomorrow if you want.
I think I know where that is. The fenced neighborhood north of the lake is a good spot,
Yeah, the west point lake houses are really good.

First understand the game is hardcore survival and that includes combat.

-Be very careful confronting crowds, especially if multi hit is disabled. It only takes one to nab you and allow the whole mob to descend upon you.
-Zombies mainly are lured by sound and sight. That includes guns.
-Sprinting will make them notice you from further away. Practice it in spots that are empty, but try to avoid sprinting when traveling.
-Yes, they can see you inside looking out the window, close the curtains.
-Zombie populations are initially in sync with the density, urban areas have more zombies, overtime they gradually wander out.
-Zombies are DANGEROUS. It’s world war Z rules by default, scratches have a small chance of infecting, bites are 100% guarantee of infection.
-If you are bitten, you are fucked, it’s 100% lethal. If you were scratched, it’s also possible to get sick with symptoms mimicking infection even if you’re not infected.
-If you’re hurt, click the heart icon and right click the wounds to deal with them, assuming you have a bandage or rag. Infected means the wound is infected, NOT zombie infection. Infected wounds take longer to heal the same length of time to heal, but are more painful. Regularly change bandages and clean the wound to avoid infections.
-You can use alcohol to sterilize bandages.
-Be aware of getting exhausted. The more exhausted you get, the weaker your hits are. Rest on furniture to recuperate quickly.
-Enjoy the lights and water? Don’t get comfy, they’re set to go out after a certain time, usually the first two weeks by default.
-Perishables will be the first to go once the power goes, so prioritize eating them while stocking up on canned goods.
-Hammers are valuable, they allow you access to the basics of carpentry like making barricades. Other useful items include screwdrivers (used in a lot of recipes and disassembly), hacksaws (can make planks from logs), bottles (you should keep one on you), knives, and a bag of any kind for carrying items.
-Axes are fucking awesome, they hit hard, last long, can easily destroy doors, and can efficiently chop trees.
-You can check your skills and progress on the health bar. Leveling up makes a significant difference. It also takes a long time, most skills can get a booster if you read the appropriate skill book, allowing you to level up thrice as fast.

Oh, and remember to press Q

I might try it out in a few days when I have some time. Been wanting to get into multiplayer project zomboid for awhile now

Also, speaking of kiwi servers, i've been thinkin of starting up a kiwi meridian 59 server. Mostly because it'll run on literally anything, has almost no system requirements and is open sourced these days so there are plenty of options for stuff to do with it. Its very pvp centric, has player owned guildhalls, a use based combat and magic system, so no actual classes and is a decent enough size that theres enough to keep people interested but not too big that everybody just fucks off to do their own thing without ever dealing with anybody else. Not much in the way of actual quests in it though, so it is mostly pvp and pve. Plus combat tournaments are a built in feature and its easy enough to do interesting prizes like colored hair, skin, items and weapons. After all who wouldn't want a neon green scimitar engraved with 'the troonslayer'

Its also the only game you're ever likely to encounter that inevitably leads to getting an alert that says your pants shatter in the heat of battle

So if anybody is interested let me know, if there are enough people that want to give it a shot i'll set something up

I'm down for it. Been playing it recently, would really like to play with fellow kiwis.

What mods are we looking at so far?

SNCA ALERT BELOW:

Here's mods I use for vanilla+ (these are all 43.12 multiplayer compatible):
Detailed Skill Tooltips: https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=3572846242
Vanilla Foods Expanded: https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=3577903007
Project Summer Car: https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=3564950449
Here Comes the Sun (really pretty god-rays and better lighting especially at dawn/dusk): https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=3618557184
More destruction (not trivial, shit that would make you come to dead stop in car are now breakable and just reduce momentum): https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=3413150945
Better infected wounds: https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=3410729454
Vehicle Repair Overhaul (it's balanced, makes mechanics more fun to play without making it piss easy): https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=2757712197
Animated vanilla vehicles (unsure if it's 100% stable on B42, and I'm assuming you're not adding any mod vehicles): https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=3281755175
Reorganize the Backpacks: https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=2901962885

I'd say to add Realistic Car Physics as well, but that requires everyone who wants to join to do their own manual installation of the mod before they connect

Regularly change bandages and clean the wound to avoid infections.
Do infections still do nothing (except prolong the time in which wound heals) or were they changed since it would be a waste of shit to change the bandage every few mins or so ?
I bought Zomboid yesterday
unironically watch those gay tips videos that youtubers make for absolute begginer they are good/good enough also in case you want to practise in SP feel free to change Sandbox settings (like loot rarity to high and shit like that) also Harbingers lake houses locations are VERY good (i quit before 42 so idk if theya re still good) but once you get a car with Burglars hotwire skill they become good option for safehouse.

I might’ve mixed it up with a mod. Seems infections just increase pain, but not healing time.

The main differences from B41 to B42 is that those high wooden/metal fences can now buckle and break if there's a large enough horde pushing through it. Also they changed the zombie distribution heatmap so more densely packed places have ALOT more zeds, while isolated places like forests and cabins in the woods will barely have a zombo if any.

Also ragdolls. that's it, ragdolls.

The one thing I have seen that I dislike, besides the muscle fatigue system, is how wonky they made guns. I saw some guy doing a in depth research on the gun mechanics and they are very wonky and buggy, specially paired with ragdolls off.

That was only a problem for me when I tried those long-form playthroughs where you start really weak and malnourished to min-max your perks. See, I don't mind these little things, but my problem with B42 as a whole was that they made it, and IIRC they explicitly stated it somewhere, that they didn't like how players were doing videos killing thousands of zombies with ease, or making meta builds between negative/positive traits and shit like that. Also the game wants to rape your ass with "brutal realism" (not really considering some of the mechanics) but only if it harms the player, while simple QoL like fucking opening a door with a crowbar is never added.

ok niggers server starting up again, mods I installed before fucked with the server saves and settings so I had to do a hard reset. Max player count is low atm, if theres a bunch of people wanting to play at once and ram becomes an issue, ill upgrade the VPS.

Having a lot of fun with the homies tonight on PZ

Bedtime though, will pick up next time for more fun, 12ish tomorrow PST
