the soda stream mixes were okay until they added all that fake Jewish sugars and stopped using that sweet sweet sugar cane.
 
My pops has one of these but he just uses it to make endless amounts of sparkling water because he's a weird guy and doesn't like normal water I guess
 
I have one, it's great, I really like it. However the amount of flavors available here aren't that great and the default choices of pepsi/ pepsi max are actually beaten out by regular bottles when it's discounted which happens frequently. The one store that sells flavor in comparison never discount their sodastream flavors. Because of those factors I usually use sodastream for more unique choices like cherry cola or other flavors not usually sold in 6 packs or discounted. flavored water loses pretty much all the time in price since it costs about half as much as the soda stream version.

A product like this lives or dies on it's amount of flavors and here it's just ok you're not gonna unlock a wide array of cheap flavors like all those smaller bottles you see at the store.
(no rc cola, orange soda, dr pepper, etc here)

I recommend it if you've ever wanted something weird like cherry cola or mountain dew but didn't want to bother going to the store to buy a 0.5 litre bottle as having the syrup around is kinda neat. But until they have more flavors it's strictly a niche item.

The sodas have never really tasted flat or anything for me so that's a non issue.

Gimmick appliance that goes in the back of the cupboard with all the other barely used gimmick items.

(This is a real-life experience of use of the SodaStream. I can only assume it's worth the noise pollution.)
 
My friend got rid of his and gave it to me. I would have used it myself if it wasn't fucking stupid. Too expensive to make any sense. Still fun to experiment with. Made my own homemade four loko, also it turns out carbonated milk is fucking gross. Changes the flavor entirely, tasted immediately curdled. Ran out of carbonation before I could get to carbonated gravy, sadly.

I wonder how cakes would turn out if you used fizzy milk in the batter. Might try it instead of buttermilk one of these days, thank you.
 
It's the bomb. Chilled water with the required degree of fizziness. Carbon dioxide cylinders aren't too pricey but neither is fizzy water, but it becomes rare at times and all the empty bottles are annoying.

Well well well, we finally found Stuart Ashens and Barry Lewis's joint KF account...
I have one, that I've yet to use, but I bet you could make some neat syrups for some pretty niche sodas.
 
I love mine, but I pretty much exclusively drink diet Tonic, and it’s great for that (rather than buying bottles 0.5-1 L at a time and dealing with recycling). Mostly, I just appreciate the convenience of having something tasty and fizzy without running to the store.

I’ll also mix in a couple ounces of a strong fruit juice (like the fancy pomegranate or cherry juices); that’s a nice spin instead of relying on the syrup.
