I just started down the Mark Laita scandal rabbit hole and…Jesus there’s just so much to look through and it’s becoming more and more indiciaire to me that this dude is an exploitive piece of shit. I’m gonna celebrate the day when a thread gets made for him here on the farms.

I've listened to a few of his interviews before just for background noise and this Mark guy is definitely retarded. He really gives Special Stories Chris vibes, but for pedophile victims and drug addicts. I wish I had time to help gather shit for a thread

The alcoholics are the best. Because they are down to earth and have the words to describe the hell they are going through. Their brains are still working. My favorite:

Yeah, and she was supposedly 13 (according to her and her whore mom, unreliable narrators but STILL!) and he also let her blast her socials in the original (not the blurred reupload). Apparently she showed up in a hoodie and he wanted her to change to "be more authentic." All of these ladies are from the Fig or Tenderloin so are easily found by nefarious actors/pimps. I heard that the people he spotlights are considered "trophies" on the streets, and the way he presents all their B&W photos in the thumbnails like a lineup on his channel, that's exactly what it feels like. Trophies.

There's another interview where he was talking to Rebecca about that near-naked young lady (just, why?), and said he's an ass and thigh man and didn't even notice her tits were on display... :story: (never was this emoticon more appropriate)

I'm an ex addict. I also have a little stack of cash just sitting gathering interest. I also have a dearth of free time after I complete my newest project. Once I get all my ducks in a row and get a thread going, I am seriously considering applying for an interview. Except he would have no idea I would be the one doing the interviewing,
looking forward to it and good luck. this guy is sinister as fuck. sets off all sorts of internal alarm bells. im not a super religious guy but i still believe there is a special place in hell for performative and exploitive charity acts like this.

I always recommend "Oxyana" to people who watch Soft White Underbelly.
I would recommend  Oxyana to pretty much anyone interested in the dark side of rural America, personally.

Growing up in Southern Appalachia in the 1990s through the 2000s, at the beginning of the region's opioid and methamphetamine epidemics, the effects of both were pretty much inescapable here. You were an addict, loved an addict, were hurt by an addict or (usually) some combination of at least two of those three. It hit my own community, and my own family, like a fucking hurricane. About ¾ of my closest relatives are dead, and out of the ones who are left, I'm pretty much the only one who's managed to stay steadily employed and out of prison. Basically nobody talked about what was, objectively, a major societal problem right in the heartland of the US in the national media, though, at least not in any serious way. When the documentary saw a wide release in the early 2010s, it was the first time I can remember anyone doing that on a mainstream cable TV network.

With increasing awareness of the opioid epidemic in general, that's improved to an extent. Even now, though, it's still one of only a few decent documentaries focused on how and why a nationwide crisis hit this particular region with unusual severity.

I got really into the channel for a while there. I have to warn people there are quite a lot of holes in the stories during the interviews from some people, things that simply don't make sense people have posted there is no record of such incident the interviewed party is describing. The guy who pulls a pistol and racks the slide brandishing it at the interviewer is holding a false firearm for example. Simply not a real gun.

It's fascinating but depressing beyond words, the mental illness and drug addiction are a slow painful death. I've met many of those people just with different names and faces. The sexual deviants and the junkies all seem to have to same personality.

Soft White Underbelly isn't a bad concept for a show but you can tell they're scraping the barrel with some guests. Jazmen Jafar is on one episode talking about making money off her big tits. Who cares? On another episode, the leader of a local Klan group speaks. The Klan, of course, being such a scary institution in 2024. And there are only so many drunks and druggies you can listen to before you get the picture.

Imagine still giving them money after all the lies they've told.
They get attention, so Mark will keep interacting with them.

Honestly a lot of them, I don't even know if they have IQs high enough to understand that their actions have any sort of effect on people.
Do they even understand, truly, what it means when money is taken and trust is lost?
That said, BJ knows exactly what she's doing, and does it anyway.
Drugs are bad, mmkay.

Yeah, he wouldn't even bother with the gofundme if whittaker content wouldn't get the views it does. They're going to get the money because more than enough morons out there take pity on the inbred retards, he goes to them, films a couple of vidoes and rakes in the cash, the video above almost has 460k views and was uploaded yesterday.
Then something else happens (someone dies and they need money for the funeral or whatever) and the cycle repeats.
Laita might be a questionable character, but he's not dumb.

I know nothing about this guy other than seeing a few of his videos along the years. Just saw a fb post about his 22 year old girlfriend dying, so far no definite COD, but she did have cocaine in her system. They met 2.5 years ago (so 18-19 for her) when he interviewed her methhead bio mom. He's the one who found her in the bathtub, rigored up already. The fb post comments (in a private group) are mostly critical of him for exploitation of his video subjects. He posted a video on his SWU channel talking about the situation. There doesn't seem to be an obit. Just a GFM.

So, did he ever get a thread?
I've had a bad stretch of unfortunate personal events (and just busy IRL) but I am still interested in getting an outline for a thread complete this month sometime. I see more info has come out (thanks SWN for your contribution!), now I'm more enthused to do more in-depth research and develop a timeline to present. Very curious about this young GF.

eta: Starting to get back into this dude after a refreshing bike ride. Currently watching his appearance on Billy Corgan's "The Magnificent Others," and taking notes. I can say right off the bat that Mark looks horrible, and I am detecting distinctly feminine mannerism/facial expressions, especially around the mouth. This guy cross-dresses, 100%.

So I watched a much better interview, where again he paints himself as one fascinated with the oddballs/rejects of life from a young age (can relate, tbh, being on KF and all). Makes a point to say that not a single person has come out to disparage/accuse him in over XXX videos (as if one of his subjects even has a chance, puh-lease. They know upon which side their bread is buttered).

Not wasting resources on a direct upload:

Here's a different photo of his young girlfriend, and I will upload his statement video for archival purposes. I have yet to watch it just because I am very here and there IRL, therefore am probably not the best candidate to create a thread.

The subreddit seems to have more people turning against him, calling him out as a creep so we'll see how this shakes out. I wish I had access to his private videos but I ain't paying this dude a cent.

I just assume everyone here is bullshitting to some extent with these videos: Laita, the guests, etc. If you’ve ever had to interact with shady characters to an extent, you know that these people will lean into certain things that will get them more attention, more clicks, etc. once you become an addict, everything you say is bullshit because your brain just becomes wired to get more drugs into your system. Everyone is hustling here.

Lost interest with this channel when they had those two faggots Lush and that “pimp” from NoJumper on. Then I lost even more interest when Chris the Pedo Delia was featured as well. I will admit that some of the interviews he has are wild and I sometimes go back to listening to them. The meth heads and junkies are the most interesting because it’s hard to decipher if they’re flat out psychotic or the shit really happened.

This one regarding a schizophrenic man is really interesting and sad. You can clearly see how fucking gone he is but it’s fascinating listening to how he views the world.

Edit: Was scrolling through to find others I found interesting.

There’s one I remember where it was a fent addict discussing how him and his ex had a kid, they passed out on xannies, and he came to and found someone in the process of raping/killing his new born, which he then dragged the guy out of the house and smashed his skull with a hammer.

That’s part of the story. Became a truck driver after, sobered up, had kids with a new woman, and then relapsed and found himself on skid row. None of the faces looked familiar while scrolling through the videos, and I could see him asking for the video to be removed, because he was in the process of trying to clean up to go back to his family.

That video might be one of the weirdest things I've ever seen. Starting of with some sponsored shit just to move into talking about his dead girlfriend? Don't forget to download Raid Shadow Legends!!!! The age gap and way of meeting is super weird. He clearly was some sugar daddy and he only talks about how she made him feel good. It was clearly transactional rather than a proper relationship.
Dude is just setting his weird "freak show" youtube career on fire right now. He could have just said nothing.
