Internet Download Manager: uGet (for Linux/Windows)

The first and only recommendation for it in this thread was in 2018, I believe. Give it a try, it's very nice with a beautifully minimal interface.

When I used to use Windows heavily I'd edit videos with VirtualDub. I don't know what free successors are out there, especially with AI. But, I found it useful for many light and heavy editing jobs.

For light use on Windows, I used to use the free DVD authoring application DVD Flick. I couldn't find that mentioned in this thread.

Ive got a friend who keeps yapping about his download manager but doesn't actually explain why he likes it. What makes it special?
It's a good way to manage large file downloads. You can limit download speed, limit how many simultaneous downloads are going, auto extract zips and split zips, clean up original files after extraction, and auto use credentials with premium accounts/debrid.

By default, we do not keep permanent IP logs in relation with your Account. However, IP logs may be kept temporarily to combat abuse and fraud, and your IP address may be retained permanently if you are engaged in activities that breach our Terms of Service (e.g. spamming, DDoS attacks against our infrastructure, brute force attacks).

Does this mean that if your account is subpoenaed to give up your email address then someone could then go through the Swiss legal system to get your IP address then go through your own country's legal system to subpoena your ISP to disclose your personal details then dox you? It sounds paranoid to me as I type this but at the same time this is a strongly hated community so perhaps there is some merit to my paranoia? There is also the unlikely possibility that registering an account here classifies as abuse.

I think the chances of that happening specifically to you are near nil but I suppose nothing is impossible if you're using it for nefarious purposes.

well one terrorist used protonmail therefore they fucked themselves with the ip adress save logs, but i think as long as you dont committ crimes, the swiss government couldnt care less about your existence.

If you are signing up to Kiwifarms why:
  1. would you use ANY email address that you use anywhere else?
  2. would you not use a VPN?
  3. would you not just use cock.li, and sign up via Tor Browser? They have a webmail client now.

To quote the whole thing for context:
2.5 IP logging: By default, we do not keep permanent IP logs in relation with your Account. However, IP logs may be kept temporarily to combat abuse and fraud, and your IP address may be retained permanently if you are engaged in activities that breach our Terms of Service (e.g. spamming, DDoS attacks against our infrastructure, brute force attacks). The legal basis of this processing is our legitimate interest to protect our service against non-compliant or fraudulent activities. If you enable authentication logging for your Account or voluntarily participate in Proton's advanced security program, the record of your login IP addresses is kept for as long as the feature is enabled. This feature is off by default, and all the records are deleted upon deactivation of the feature. The legal basis of this processing is consent, and you are free to opt in or opt out of that processing at any time in the security panel of your Account. The authentication logs feature records login attempts to your Account and does not track product-specific activity, such as VPN activity.
So basically they will log your email account login IP address but not conjoin your VPN usage (as in ProtonVPN usage)
So if you're using a VPN it'll be that address ideally no matter who you're using with no extra context provided by Protonmail.
So use a VPN dood
And don't use the account you use for illegal shit to connect to anything to identify you specifically.
They give you pretty much every out to not identify yourself.
You can pay with bitcoin which can be washed, and connect over a VPN, and then it's your choice what you tie up in that identity from then on.

It does not classify as abuse. All you really need to worry about when it comes to anything of this nature is to always either use a privacy-respecting VPN such as Mullvad or ivpn that allows payments via Monero, cash or washable cryptocurrency, and that doesn't retain logs. Or Tor. That is literally it. Even if the Swiss subpoena Proton for IP logs they only see your VPN endpoint's IP, and even if they subpoena Mullvad or whoever else,, again, they get fuck all because of no logs and no way to ID your specific account. There is always merit to concerns like this in the era of mass surveillance. It isn't paranoia if everyone really is out to get you!

I've been using Helium Browser for the past couple months and it's probably the best Chromium based browser out there.
It's literally Brave but better, with all the bs (crypto, sponsored content, built in VPN, etc) stripped out. Also, comes with uBlock Origin pre installed and has some cool privacy features.
The only downsides are no auto updates on Windows and no DRM support. The dev team is small (i think theres only two main devs, one of them being a ruzzian faggot)
I'll keep using it for now, but I may switch back to LibreWolf in the near future. Maybe I'll keep Helium for general browsing and Librewolf for the chuddy stuff.

Think of Proton as just a "better Google". It is private and secure, they won't scan your emails or sell your data. Proton is NOT an anonymous provider tho, it is a good option for personal stuff if you value your privacy and don't want your data to be raped by Google. They WILL comply with authorities.
Their VPN is fine, I don't think feds can get any personal info about you through there, but I wouldn't sign up on websites like KF with their email.

If you want to stay anonymous, just use something like cock.li via VPN/Tor

Just in case, some official resellers like Proxy Store will offer discounts on Mullvad subscriptions (10% in this case).
EuroGODS can pay via SEPA bank transfer, cash and crypto are also accepted for everyone else.

Here are some software suggestions useful on the daily (if not mentioned already):

- AdGuard: System wide ad blocking/internet filter (cross-platform). On your Phone it will block ads on every app, no more ad banners, etc... Requires Lifetime license (not very expensive)
- Tailscale: Creates a virtual network between your devices without complex setup. Access your NAS/Local computer from outside.
- ReVanced / Morphed: Patches for popular Android apps to unblock their premium features and modify their behavior. For example you can enable SponsorBlock on YouTube, or remove integrated ads on X, Reddit... No Root required.

sysadmin/home schizo essential - vmPing. Lets you monitor multiple devices/addresses within and outside of your home network. It has clean, neat UI. It has sets of favorites. It has sound notifications and mail alerts. It has colors. No need to install, it's just a single executable. It has fucking everything.

Has anyone got a meaningful suggestion for a replacement phone call/contacts app and photo gallery app for android based devices? I hate Google with every fiber of my being and need to be 100% my phone calls aren't going through their faggot app, and that my photos aren't in their nigger gallery.

The 'Fossify' Phone and Contacts apps continue the previous 'Simple' apps, after the original developer of those sold them to a dodgy company. That's probably as good as you get there.

Now- will they actually keep you any safer if you're a cool dude who the JewSA hates? Nah, probably not, if you think stock Android isn't doing the same thing that Apple was caught doing recently and logging notifications including the text (which will generally include phone numbers/contact names), you're nuts. But still probably a slight improvement. Give them a go, and see if they have any options to turn off details in the notifications.

I do use Fossify Gallery (formerly Simple Gallery) and that's great.

What good software is out there to let me edit pdf files? I am not going to pay for Adobe, I would rather take screenshots of every page and edit them with MS Paint, but if there's some third party software I'd be willing to pay $20-$30 if there's nothing free.
