One of the foremost controversies of our time is the capitalization of the noun ınternet. Many esteemed institutions like the Associated Press mandate that "internet" is to be spelled with a lowercase i, while scholars such as Joshua "Null" Moon, owner and ooperator of the doxxing, stalking, and harassment website KiwiFarms believe that it should be spelled with an uppercase I. Both sides have their points, and neither is budging.

We all know that, given multiple options, the centrist option is the most intelligent and correct one. From now on, we will spell "ınternet" with the dot-less Turkish i. "ınternet" can be used for small interconnected networks or one global interconnected network, depending on context. The other spellings, "internet" and "Internet", are hereby deprecated, and will be removed from the English language at a later date.

I hope this solves the issue once and for all.

It's a proper noun. Some might argue that it's fallen into loose usage as a generic noun, i.e., "internetting," etc., but when someone refers to the Internet, it's a proper noun and should be capitalized.

We don't refer to any other proper noun that way because that would be illiterate and retarded. I wouldn't give one rotten fuck if The AP Style Guide decided in 2016 to transmogrify it into a generic noun; there are other style guidelines and authorities on the English language. I don't care if Apple and Microsoft think the Internet is a generic noun. They also believe that the Internet should be a series of censored walled gardens. Are you going to jump on that horseshit too? No thanks. The Internet is a proper noun, while my internet bill is not. It's about context.

Yes it's technically supposed to be capitalized.
But then I ask myself: Does the internet actually deserve to have its I capitalized?

Maybe at one point it did, but the modern iteration very clearly does not warrant the respect of an additional shift key press.

Until the common man can type the N word on most popular platforms without getting in trouble, that will remain the state of things.

Which internet?
You're being a pedantic faggot, and I appreciate it!

The Internet is THE system that ties us all together. Yes, there are many different internetworks of systems that make up the wider Internet, but when we're talking about the uppercase-I Internet, we know which Internet we're talking about.

Smaller internetworked systems, shortened to internets, (and yes, intranets) that power universities and large businesses, would not be considered Internets, for example. They're just internets. Just like I wouldn't talk about my "Internet bill" because those are just using internet as a general noun. But when we're using the proper noun, referring to the singular global internetwork of systems that connect us, that's different. Yes, MANY internets combine, but that's like when we're talking about a Nation and its constituents. Proper noun, general noun.

I know it's fun to shit on people who get pissy about the whole "Internet is a proper noun" thing, but it is a proper noun. The AP Style Guide is shit. Even Chicago has gone to hell, it demands you capitalize the Web, World Wide Web, but internet is general. I don't get it. It's a proper noun. And then the journos cry that their profession is dying when they don't understand the basic rules of our language.

I thought this was gonna be a thread discussing how to solve enshittification of the 'Net that is caused by Capitalism.
