Summary: A mod has been released which adds Notorious Homophobic Hate Symbol, the American flag, to the video game Spider-Man (2018 ). DON'T WORRY, the mod author has been banned, and moderators and journalists are working tirelessly to ensure all critics of the ban are silenced.

There are at least a dozen articles being written on the subject right now, and all are equally exceptional. Rather than posting just one, here are a couple for you to enjoy:

Spider-Man fans outraged as new game ‘modded’ to delete LGBTQ+ Pride flags

A mod of Marvel’s Spider-Man Remastered that removed LGBTQ+ Pride flags from the game has been taken down.
Spider-Man Remastered, a refreshed version of the 2019 console game, was released on PC on Friday (12 August), and efforts to modify it began almost immediately.
Oftentimes when a game is released on PC, users alter or modify in-game files (which are more easily accessible through PC releases) to make their own custom mechanics or aesthetic changes.

While attempts were predominantly creative and positive in nature, one modder decided to replace all the game’s Pride flags with the American flag.
The mod, named “Non-Newtonian New York”, was quickly inundated with comments, both from anti-LGBTQ+ users looking for a place to vent their homophobia and others who thought the mod was a bigoted mess.
It was eventually removed, presumably due to violating the terms of service of the website host, Nexus Mods, but not before instigating a heated debate about the mod’s existence.
Users who congregated in a dedicated modding Discord server began arguing as to whether the mod should be allowed or not.
Others attempted to create their own files that served the same purpose – all of which have been deleted – with one even saying in its description it aimed to remove the “disgusting agenda” of Pride.

It also labelled Pride flags showcased in the game’s rendition of New York as “unrealistic”, despite the fact Pride was born in Manhattan during the Stonewall riots in 1969.
Some claimed the mod was to balance out a lack of US flags in the game – there are at least eight in the game’s overworld alone. Thankfully, other attempts to defend the mod were quickly banned by the server’s moderation team.

Since then, pro-LGBTQ+ modders have fought back by uploading mods celebrating Pride, including one that replaces the Pride flag with the LGBTQ+ progress Pride flag and another that replaces Spider-Man‘s suit with a Pride-inspired rainbow aesthetic.
Unfortunately, bigoted users have taken to the comments of these pro-LGBTQ+ mods to share more homophobic rhetoric, but they’re being drowned out by fans calling the mods “spectacular”.
Originally released for the Playstation 4 in 2018, Spider-Man Remastered’s inclusion of Pride memorabilia, including the iconic Stonewall Inn, had LGBTQ+ fans jumping for joy.

Comic book writer Saladin Ahmed took to Twitter to commend the decision to add Pride flags, saying: “Thinking about all the 12-year-old kids who will be playing this game and seeing this in towns where it’s not safe to put that flag up.”
One of the most acclaimed parts of the game was its amazingly immersive overworld, set in a modern-day Manhattan. Considering the city’s association with Pride, bringing the rainbow to the streets of New York is about as realistic as it gets.

Spider-Man Remastered Modder Banned For Removing Pride Flag

Another one of Sony's big titles has launched on PC, allowing a whole new portion of players to enjoy what was previously a PlayStation exclusive, and providing PC modders with additional fodder. But a new mod for Spider-Man Remastered sparked outrage and even got the creator banned.

Marvel's Spider-Man, which was remastered for PS5, is now available on the PC with goodies such as DLSS, ray-tracing, and ultra-wide screen support all included, while modders took next to no time in creating mods for it. One mod for the game however has been called out for its homophobia and toxic comments.

Uploaded to Nexus Mods early today, the mod in question was called 'Non-Newtonian New York'. This mod removes all the rainbow Pride flags from the game and replaces them with the Stars and Stripes.

The open world used by Spider-Man and Miles Morales is a marvellous recreation of NYC that is filled with Easter Eggs and details that keen-eyed explorers can discover, and which also includes touching tributes to the various communities that inhabit the great city. So players can find several Pride flags adorning town hall buildings throughout the map.

A modder going by the name Mike Hawk (har har) uploaded a mod that replaces the rainbow flags with the American flag. The mod page proceeded to quickly fill up with comments, with haters using the chance to vent homophobia alongside other useless witterings, while others pushed back and called out the homophobic mod.

It's in stark contrast to the spirit of the Spider-Man games, with the protagonists calling out hate groups and being a friendly neighbourhood Spider-Man to every person. Insomniac too has been vocal about supporting Pride Month and Black History Month celebrations, and the games celebrate the diversity of the city it's based in.

The mod appeared online for less than 24 hours, however. Nexus Mods confirmed to We Got This Covered that the 'Non-Newtonian New York' mod has been removed, and that its creator's account (as well as an alt account) have been banned. A spokesperson for the site said that the mod creator "is no longer welcome on Nexus".

Remember, if you see, or suspect, anyone habouring anti-LGBTQ thoughts, be sure to report them!

Noted homophobe and presumed serial killer @quaawaa has reuploaded and hosted the mod here:

Goes without saying but please do not download and install this mod unless you are employed by an approved Video Game Journalism Website, and need to write an article about why everybody has to be gay all of a sudden and why censorship is good, actually.

How long before Miles Morales gets a PC port and something similar happens again with the BLM mural?
Sidenote, it's hilarious that the whole plot of Miles Morales is just a bunch of negros infighting amongst each other, while Peter is away in Israel.
T'was a fun game, but man i could see the BLM pandering before they even announced the damn game.
Miles Morales is part of the package, the PC release is the Deluxe Edition with the base game, The City That Never Sleeps DLC and MM.

I could be misunderstanding you but Miles Morales is a separate game/sequel. It's going to be released on PC later this year, separately from this Spider-Man game.

Also, fun fact about Miles Morales: his father was accidentally named after Confederate President Jefferson Davis. And apparently he's such a cuck his own son uses his wife's last name.

He managed to get 2 MATI Moai Garbage TMI Sperging Deviant Retard. I believe that he's in KF to get, Tommy Tooter has his reaction from years worth of sperging here. Fun fact

Either way thanks to this event modders are hosting on third party sites and even their own, it's sweet to see that something good comes out of this censorship. Who guessed pedo community actually achieved something great
Mild Necro, but which posts got the nuke stickers?
I'm morbidly curious...

Cool time for some more zingers.

I was excited when I saw this title that I'd be able to swing through NY calling NPCs faggots, turned out to be the weakest homophobia ever

Shit like this is why gatekeeping is a requirement for any hobby.

In fact anyone who even suggests that something, no matter how small, needs to change in the name of non-fans, needs to get kicked out or otherwise shut up. (personally I say kick out because they are likely to wait and push the shit again as soon as they get the chance....maybe with help next time)

A reminder that this is the modding community we are talking about.. Don't forget that fem and prog sites/nitwits have been randomly making attacks on it for a decade. Now we are literally at the point of "no, don't to it yourself or in your own game" Modding has basically begun its fall. Much like PC gaming, it has pretty much consolidated itself into a few sites/organizations which control everything. And that some game companies themselves are trying to take over their games modding. (even more dangerous)

Like with online video and youtube, modding free expression started to go on hard times once it all started to centralize. I feel like it can be blamed partially on steam workshop too. But it does seem workshop is actually better at letting some things stay up than nexus and co.
