No, you need moderator discretion on bans or decent beloved people will be turfed out over petty infractions and absolute cancer will shit the place up as long as they don't do anything against the rules.
The only way to run a successful webzone is to treat it like an autistic game of thrones. You need a counterweight to every power. Moderation staff needs to maintain a level of power to keep people from turning your forum into a spam toilet, but there has to be something to stop them from turning it into their own cool kids clique clubhouse. Traditionally it's the website owner's responsibility to step in curtail them if they get too uppity, but when you've got a userbase full of malicious doxing assholes who can ruin peoples lives, that tends to work pretty well too. And the power of the website owner also needs to be curtailed or you just end up with an exceptional individual running the webzone into the ground and nobody to tell him to stop. The power of the userbase needs to be curtailed or you end up with a cannabilistic mess of constant infighting where one bad post results in people having their irl lives ruined and chased off the internet forever. All in all you cannot have any degree of power, even the power to ban idiots on a webzone, without something to counteract it.
Part of what makes Kiwi Farms great is there is a balance of power and Null understands that it needs to be kept balanced. It might sound utterly autistic to treat webforuming like you're balancing the continental powers of Europe in the 1700's, but if you don't embrace that ridiculous powerplaying you end up with a shit webzone that everybody makes fun of. It looks like what happened to ruin SA was a clique of moderators having no counterbalance to their bullshit because Lowtax went absent and the userbase was made up of whiny faggots too afraid to make moderation's lives hell because their ten bucks was on the line.
