Something needs to be done about newfags necroposting. - No we can't poison them.

This seems to be a trend recently, particularly on A+H, where some prat who joined less than a year ago goes into a thread that hasn't been posted on in months, sometime years, just to post some inane dribble.

Is it possible to implement a function to stop this, like an automatic lock for threads that haven't been posted in for a while or something?

Not really. I guess you could be more vigilant or call Jannies to mop up but that’s an awful lot of button clicks to deal with a literal nothing burger.

It’d be nice to implement an automatic inactivity lock function, sort of like a timer that starts after a post is made. If within The time allotted a new post is made the thread restarts the timer.

But, last time I checked, we were getting buttfucked with DDOS attacks, so I’m not sure that’s a function that can be afforded atm without moving focus from something more important.

I feel your pain, but It's hard to enforce necro rules on this forum because sometimes information about a long dormant cow comes out and the only relevant place for it is in their original thread. And I know that the different boards have slightly different rules but it's a lot to ask people to remember "Dont ever Necro HERE. Necro-ing HERE however is not only totally fine, but encouraged."

I guess automated tools to prevent it would work, but that also seems like a tall order.

Probably clicking on "simillar threads" at the bottom without checking the date. I've caught myself doing that a few times.
Speaking of which... Here's what I got on this thread.

The last time I announced I was going to do something funny like that one of the jannies waited until the last week and then locked the thread and I felt absolutely felted.
Should’ve set the actual reminder to 2 weeks before your stated date to cuck the janny.

For the OP… just report it when you see it and move on. I’ve done it and it usually gets resolved in a day. It’s not such a prevalent issue as to be anything more than a minor annoyance. Any attempt to “fix” it will only cause more problems, because there ARE legitimate reasons to necropost a thread if new developments happen after a long drought.
