Oh wait now I know what to do with the comics I've got sitting on my shelf from when I was a kid.

I could let them sit for a few more years and then sell them for tons of money (assuming they rise in price).

We got news as to who's the new distributor, is anyone really surprised by this?

SEGA and IDW Publishing have announced a partnership to produce new comics based on the Sonic the Hedgehog franchise as soon as 2018. The news follows the recent termination of SEGA’s contract with Archie Comics, which housed several Sonic comic book titles over the last 20 years.

“Creative teams are currently being formed,” teases an official press release, “and a publishing plan is now underway with more details to come at a later date. Writers and artists will be bringing their considerable talents to the comic book world of Sonic.”

“We’ve been speaking with beloved Sonic fan-favorite creators and new creators alike, and are excited to be able to spread specifics about our plans for the comic in the near future,” Chris Ryall, IDW’s Chief Creative Officer, said upon the announcement.

“We are ecstatic about this partnership with IDW,” Ivo Gerscovich, Chief Brand Officer for Sonic the Hedgehog, said. “We know they’ll serve as a good home for the new adventures of Sonic, his friends, and foes.”

Archie Comics’ Sonic the Hedgehog series ran from November 22, 1992 to July 19, 2017, first under the pen of Michael Gallagher, then Ken Penders, and eventually Ian Flynn. The comic book series was originally envisioned as not only an adaptation of Sega’s popular action-platformer franchise starring a speedy blue hedgehog, but also as an extension of DiC Entertainment’s cartoon adaptation by the same name. The series added a great deal of story to the otherwise lore-stoic game series, casting the main characters from the Sonic games as freedom fighters set on defeating the sinister Doctor Eggman who wants to turn Mobius’ wild animals into cyborgs who will do his bidding.

So, how long until they start yelling "WHY COULDN'T MARVEL GET THE LICENSE?!" or some shit like that?

If Sega really plans to continue the comics at another publisher, my money would be on either IDW or Boom.

They better go with Boom so they can call it Sonic Boom and give Sonic blue arms.

Tangentially related, but I'm cracking up that Chris' Patreon makes almost more money than all the official Sonic Comic artists combined:

View attachment 251090

Ian Flynn: https://www.patreon.com/BumbleKast - $121
Tracy Yardley: https://www.patreon.com/tracy_yardley - $103
Adam Bryce Thomas: https://www.patreon.com/AdamThomas - $11
Evan Stanley: https://www.patreon.com/EvanStanley - $122
Matt Herms: https://www.patreon.com/mattherms - $93

OMG Chris is actually winning at something. Admit it - it's something.

Then again, these are Sonic comics we're competing with here... Good Riddance. The only Sonic stuff I care about are the old school games, anyway.

You know what might cause SALT BEYOND SALT?
If IDW completely reboots sonic (as in not going off from what Archie was doing)
They probably have to, even if there's nothing legally keeping them from using the Archie stuff they're going to want to bring in new readers and starting over is the best way to do that.

I cant wait for the Sonic x Transformers crossover
Wouldn't be the first time.

Now I'll never get to see Sonic help solve who killed Laura Palmer Jason Blossom.
It was the man called KIM

I wonder what Chris or Barb would make of Twin Peaks? Which waifu would Chris pick?
